The National Statistical Institute and the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) signed a Memorandum of Cooperation and Cooperation

The President of the National Statistical Institute Sergei Tsvetarsky and the UNICEF representative for Bulgaria Maria Jesus Conde signed a Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation between the two institutions. The main objective of the document is to create a sustainable comprehensive system for monitoring the situation of children in the Republic of Bulgaria.

International conference “Big Data for European statistics” 2018 (BDES 2018) was held in Sofia

The National Statistical Institute hosted and co-organised, together with Statistics Belgium, an international conference at which the results of the ESSnet Big Data project were presented. NSI President Sergey Tsvetarsky, Director-General of Eurostat Mariana Kotzeva, President of Statistics Poland Dominik Rozkrut, and project coordinator Peter Struijs participated in the event, which took place on 14-15 May 2018 in Sofia.

Main results of the April Council Working Party on Statistics

The focus of the meeting of the Council Working Party on Statistics (CWPS) held on 19 April 2018 was mainly on the proposal of the European Commission for a Framework Regulation Integrating Business Statistics.

The basis for the discussions on this file was the Bulgarian Presidency compromise text on Articles 1 to 27 of the proposal for a Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council on European business statistics amending Regulation (EC) No 184/2005 and repealing 10 legal acts in the field of business statistics (FRIBS).

Another regulation in the field of statistics successfully goes through trilogue

On 11 April 2018 in the building of the European Parliament in Brussels the first tripartite negotiations (trilogue) were held between the Parliament, the Council and the Commission on the proposal for a Regulation on integrated farm statistics.

The adoption of this regulation was expected as early as 2017 by the Member States and Eurostat in light of the upcoming agricultural census. The aim of the regulation is to ensure a common methodology and scope of the statistical surveys in the field of agriculture in the EU.

The National Round of the first European Statistics Competition for students is over

A total of 527 students from Bulgaria, distributed in 194 teams, declared their desire to participate in the first European Statistics Competition.

The competition for Bulgaria took place in two stages, and the students were distributed into two categories - Category A: students from X - XII grade and Category B: students from VIII - IX grade. In the first stage, the students had to work on a test, and in the second, each team had to analyse statistical data in the form of a presentation.

Sofia - a symbolic capital of the European Union

On April 3, 1879, at the suggestion of Prof. Marin Drinov, co-founder of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, due to the geographic location and the potential for socio-economic and cultural growth Sofia was declared the capital of Bulgaria.

Today, 139 years later, Sofia is already a symbolic capital of the European Union on the occasion of the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

The NSI will conduct a survey on ‘Social Inclusion and Living Conditions 2018’ during the March - May 2018 period

In March, the National Statistical Institute of Bulgaria launches conducting of the survey on ‘Social Inclusion and Living Conditions 2018’.

Regulation No. 1177/2003 of the European Parliament and the Council establishes a common framework for systematic production of statistics in the European Union on Income and Living Conditions (EU-SILC) which includes comparable and timely information on current status and dynamics of income, as well as the level and structure of poverty and social exclusion at national and European level.
