Bulgaria takes over the Presidency of the Council Working Party on Statistics from Estonia

On 14 December 2017 in Tartu, Estonia, Statistics Estonia officially handed over the Presidency of the Council Working Party on Statistics to the National Statistical Institute of Bulgaria in the presence of representatives from Austria and Eurostat.

At the event, the President of the NSI Sergey Tsvetarsky, who will chair the working party meetings during the Bulgarian Presidency, presented Bulgaria’s priorities in the field of statistics and described how he intends to continue and build on the work of the Estonian and the previous Presidencies.

On 14 December 2017 in Tartu, Estonia, a delegation of the National Statistical Institute headed by the NSI President Sergey Tsvetarsky will participate in a meeting at which the current Chair of the Council Working Party on Statistics and Deputy Director General of Statistics Estonia Ms. Tuulikki Sillajõe will hand over the Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the field of statistics. The meeting will also be attended by representatives of Statistics Austria, who are partners in the trio presidencies of the Council of the EU Estonia - Bulgaria - Austria.

At the meeting of the National Statistical Council (NSC), held on December 1, 2017, the Report on the implementation of the National Statistical Programme and the Activity of the NSI in 2017 was discussed and adopted. Over the past year the NSI conducted 257 statistical surveys and activities, respectively the bodies of statistics - 44. A detailed review of the implementation of all statistical surveys and strategic priorities in 2017 was made in the Report. The members of the National Statistical Council expressed their positive opinion on its content and scope.

NSI trains experts from the State Statistical Office of the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia in the field of quality management

In the period 15 - 17 November 2017, the National Statistical Institute hosts a three-day training, where experts from Methodological and Training Centre Directorate are acquainting their Macedonian colleagues with the Bulgarian experience in the field of quality management within the NSI. The training is carrying out in the framework of IPA 2014 Multi-Beneficiary Statistical Co-operation Programme. The following participants from the State Statistical Office of the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia are attending the training: Mr. Zirap Ademi, Deputy President and Ms.

The NSI participates in a meeting of the European Statistical System Committee and the European Statistical Forum

The President of the National Statistical Institute Sergey Tsvetarsky and the Deputy President Diana Yancheva will participate in the 35th meeting of the European Statistical System Committee (ESSC), which will be held on 16 November 2017 at Eurostat, Luxembourg.

The Committee will discuss and vote on the proposal for a Commission implementing regulation specifying the technical characteristics of the 2019 ad hoc module on work organisation and working time arrangements as regards the labour force sample survey pursuant to Council Regulation (EC) No. 577/98.

Bulgaria, Austria, and Estonia step up cooperation within the EU Council Presidency

From 30 to 31 October 2017 in Vienna, Austria, a coordination meeting of the Trio Presidencies of the Council of the European Union Estonia - Bulgaria - Austria will be held, at which the President of the NSI Sergey Tsvetarsky, the Deputy President Diana Yancheva, and the Head of the International Cooperation Department Yordanka Anastassova will discuss with their counterparts from the National Statistical Offices of Austria and Estonia the state of play of the open legislative files in the field of statistics.

International Seminar for the Presidency of the Council of EU was held at the NSI

The National Statistical Institute hosted an international seminar on The European Statistical System - Running the Council Presidency within the ESS.

Lecturers were Kim Voldby Pedersen and Jannie Eriksen from Statistics Denmark, who have specialized in conducting courses in EU Member States before taking up the rotating presidency of the Council of the EU. The last two courses were held in Malta and Estonia.

European statistics olympics for secondary school students 2018

The National Statistical Institute, jointly with Eurostat and 11 EU Member States, has begun the preparation of the European Statistical Olympics, which will take place during the Bulgarian EU Presidency - from the end of January 2018 to mid-May 2018.
