The National Statistical Institute of the Republic of Bulgaria and the National Bureau of Statistics of the Republic of Moldova signed an Agreement on statistical cooperation

The National Statistical Institute of the Republic of Bulgaria and the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) of the Republic of Moldova signed an Agreement on statistical cooperation on January 29, 2019 in Chisinau, Moldova. Mr. Sergey Tsvetarski, President of the National Statistical Institute signed the Agreement on behalf of Bulgaria and Mr. Vitalie Valcov, Director General of the National Bureau of Statistics signed the Agreement on behalf of Moldova.

On the Bulgarian side, the signing was attended by Mr. Clement Pramov, Counsellor (Political Affairs), Deputy Head of Mission and Mr. Bronislav Denev, Counsellor, Head of the Commercial Office of the Embassy, and on the Moldovan side – Mr. Iurie Mocanu, Deputy Director General of the National Bureau of Statistics and Mrs. Elena Maleru, Senior Adviser, “Statistical Coordination and International Cooperation” Division.

Bulgarian-Moldovan cooperation will be implemented in the following domains: assistance in the process of reforming of the Statistical System of the Republic of Moldova; promoting the development of statistical systems of the Parties in accordance with the principles of EU legislation in the field of statistics as well as of the Integrated Management System of Metadata; organizing the consultations, joint seminars and conferences in order to study the new trends and the advanced experience on the activity of official statistical bodies; implementation and application of international standards and methods, especially of the European Union.

Mr.Vitalie Valcov, Director General of the NBS stated that the signing the Agreement was a good start for future mutually beneficial cooperation and thanked for the support provided. In his turn Mr. Sergey Tsvetarski, President of the National Statistical Institute added that the cooperation with the Statistical offices of the European Neighbourhood Policy-East countries is one of the NSI's priorities and that it is in fact a continuation of the already existing cooperation with the NBS. He emphasized that Bulgaria supports the National Bureau of Statistics of the Republic of Moldova by organizing training courses for young statisticians from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine.

In the history of the bilateral relations between the two institutions this is the first visit of the President of the National Statistical Institute in Modova. The signing of the Agreement will provide a good basis for perspective and fruitful cooperation in various statistical domains.
