Bulgaria ranks 26 in open data

Bulgaria ranks 26 in the Open Data Inventory (ODIN) which assesses the official statistics of 178 countries in the world.

The report, prepared by the Open Data Watch, was officially published during the 50th session of the United Nations Statistical Commission (UNSC) in New York. According to the document in 2018 our country collects 65 points with an average score for the surveyed countries of 41.

Workshop on project for youth migration in Danube region (YOUMIG)

Heads of the Statistical Offices of the UN Member States will Discuss the Sustainable Development Goals

The implementation of the goals and targets of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development will be the focus of the discussions of the Heads of the Statistical Offices of the UN member states during the 50th annual session of the United Nations Statistical Commission (UNSC). The meeting will take place in New York from 5 to 8 March this year, and the President of the National Statistical Institute  Sergey Tsvetarsky will take part in it.

The next Population Census will be held from January 22 to February 15, 2021

The Population Census is the most substantial comprehensive statistical survey in the country, which is held every 10 years, said during a briefing the President of the NSI Sergey Tsvetarsky today after the National Assembly passed the Population Census and Census of Housing in Bulgaria Act in 2021. He stressed that in 2021 a Population Census will be held in all European countries, and the data will serve as a basis for policy-making that affects all citizens.

The first meeting of the European Statistical System Committee will take place on 7 February in Luxembourg

These issues will be discussed by the members of the European Statistical System Committee (ESSC) at their meeting in Luxembourg on 7 February. The President of the National Statistical Institute Sergey Tsvetarsky will take part in the meeting.

The National Statistical Institute of the Republic of Bulgaria and the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) of the Republic of Moldova signed an Agreement on statistical cooperation on January 29, 2019 in Chisinau, Moldova. Mr. Sergey Tsvetarski, President of the National Statistical Institute signed the Agreement on behalf of Bulgaria and Mr. Vitalie Valcov, Director General of the National Bureau of Statistics signed the Agreement on behalf of Moldova.

January 21 - Midwife’s Day in Bulgaria

January, 21st was declared the Midwife’s day in 1951 with a decree of the National Assembly of Bulgaria. Interestingly, the celebration day coincides with the date when Babinden was celebrated.

On occasion of the Midwife’s Day, the National Statistical Institute has produced an infographics from which you can find out how many are the doctors-obstetricians and gynaecologists and midwives in Bulgaria, and how many children have taken their first breath of air in their hands.

NSI – host of training of young statisticians from Balkan region

In accordance with the arrangements reached at the Informal meeting of the Heads of Statistical offices of the countries of Balkan region, held on 30 August 2018 at the Training Center in the village of Slivek, Lovech region, the National Statistical Institute hosts a training of young statisticians from the Western Balkan countries - Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Serbia and Montenegro. Young statisticians from Bulgaria also participate in the course.
