On November 16, fourth-year students from the Statistics and Econometrics major at the University of National and World Economy visited the National Statistical Institute. The guests were welcomed by the Director of the Multi-Domain Statistics and User Services Directorate, Ms. Antoaneta Ilkova.
The conference brought together around 250 high-profile participants from all the regions of the world, including politicians, public officials working in policy development, national accounts compilers and academics.
The Peer Review Report on the Bulgarian National Statistical System has been published on the NSI’s and Eurostat’s websites. The document is aimed at assessing the compliance of the producing the official statistics in Bulgaria with the 16 principles of the European Statistics Code of Practice. The Third Round of the Peer Reviews within the European Statistical System (2021-2023) emphasizes the independence of national statistical offices, the coordination among different authorities and their modernization.
At the suggestion of UNESCO, November 10 is designated International Accountants' Day.
The ‘father of accounting’ is considered to be Luca Pacioli, who on November 10, 1494, published his work "Summa de Arithmetica". In Bulgaria, accounting began to develop in the 19th century. The authors of the first accounting book were the brothers Hristo and Stoyan Karaminkovi. It was published in 1850 in Constantinople.
As a result of the press conference held a few days ago by Labour Union ‘Podkrepa’, which highlighted the inadequate remuneration of employees in the National Statistical Institute, the President of the NSI Assoc. Prof. Atanas Atanasov, PhD, met with Kremena Atanasova, President of the Syndicate of Administrative Employees ‘Podkrepa’, and Vanya Grigorova, Economic Advisor to the President of Labour Union ‘Podkrepa’.
The meeting again discussed the low salaries in the NSI system and the need to increase the expenditure for maintenance, which has not been done for years.

From October 24 to 26 in the city of Veliko Tarnovo, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) carried two seminars for the preparation of teacher mentors in the Sixth European Statistics Competition and the Third International Statistical Poster Competition. The work program included presentations on the regulations and guidelines for participation, as well as sharing good practices from mentors of winning teams over the years. On the occasion of the Day of European Statistics, October 20, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) announced a competition for a statistical essay for students on the topic: 'The importance of official statistics in the modern world of information and disinformation'. 82 students from 44 schools in 28 towns participated. With desire and a lot of work, they wrote their texts and became part of European citizens who appreciate and trust the statistical information of NSI and Eurostat. It was a pleasure for the jury members to read their works and responsibly select the best of them.
The 7th European Statistics Day will be celebrated under the motto 'Statistics to understand and connect to society, in the search for truth!' this year.
On 20 and 21 October 2022, the European Statistical Advisory Committee will hold a conference in Rome on the subject ‘The European Data Ecosystem for Statistical Information in the Digital Age’.
On European Statistics Day, Eurostat will hold a webinar featuring an overview of official statistics, followed by presentations on statistical literacy and the new Euro-indicators package.
NSI announces the start of the Sixth European Competition in Statistics for Students (EOS) on the occasion of European Statistics Day. Eurostat and 19 of the EU member states organize it. This year Slovakia joins the traditionally participating countries.
