Data description | The statistical survey of non-financial enterprises provides information by size of enterprises in terms of employed, by the following economic indicators: number of enterprises, number of persons employed, revenues, expenditure and tangible fixed assets. The annual data of non-financial enterprises are aggregated by sections (the first sign of NACE.BG-2008) The annual data, grouping by size class: the indicators are published on section level (the first sign of NACE.BG-2008) and by size class of employment. Annual regional data: Three indicators are published on a regional level by sections (the first sign of NACE.BG-2008 and NACE.BG-2003) and by statistical regions (NUTS). |

Statistical unit | The basic unit of survey is an enterprise. The overall main economic indicators and the data by size class of employment are calculated from the annual data of the enterprises. The enterprise is the smallest organisation unit producing goods or services which makes its own business decisions. The enterprise carries out one or more activities at one or more locations. The enterprise may be an independent legal unit. |
Statistical population | The survey is exhaustive and the statistical population includes all non-financial enterprises classified in sections A to S (excluding K) by NACE.BG-2008 from 2008 onwards. |

The Law on Statistics ensures the protection of statistical confidentiality and the use of individual data of enterprises for statistical purposes only. |

NSI of Bulgaria is making extraordinary efforts to reduce the respondents' burden. An example is the signed agreement called "Single Entry Point" between NSI and the National Revenue Agency for a single providing of the annual reports and using the data from both institutions. Developed by NSI on-line based information system "Business Statistics" and ensured methodological and technical assistance to respondents during the reporting campaign are highly appreciated by respondents and help to reduce their workload. | |

Activity of Non Financial Enterprises for 2023 (preliminary data)
Annual reports on their activity for 2023 were submitted at the National Statistical Institute (NSI) by 461 819 non-financial enterprises, which was 2.7% more compared to 2022. The number of persons employed in full-time equivalent in the non-financial enterprises was 2 217 960 or 1.4% more than the previous year. The non-financial enterprises generated 288 962 million BGN of the value of output at current prices and reported a positive financial result of 35 809 million BGN (the data are preliminary).

Annual reports on their activity for 2022 were submitted at the National Statistical Institute (NSI) by 448 409 non-financial enterprises, which was 8.6% more compared to 2021. The number of persons employed in full-time equivalent in the non-financial enterprises was 2 220 091 or 4.3% more than the previous year. The non-financial enterprises generated 277 910 million BGN of the value of output at current prices and reported a positive financial result of 39 803 million BGN (the data are preliminary).

412 119 were the non-financial enterprises in Bulgaria that submitted an annual report on their activity for 2021 at the National Statistical Institute (NSI), which was only 0.1% more compared to 2020. Their number of persons employed calculated in full-time equivalent (FTE) was 2 129 746 or by 1.8% more than the previous year (the data are preliminary).

According to preliminary data annual reports on their activity for 2020 were submitted at the National Statistical Institute by 410 785 non-financial enterprises and the number of persons, employed in them, was 2 092 062.
