Experimental statistics - a new section on the Eurostat’s website

Eurostat has just published a new section on its website dedicated to experimental statistics. Mariana Kotzeva, Eurostat’s Acting Director-General, said: ‘This is a major step forward for Eurostat. We now give access to Eurostat’s innovation and development work to better respond to our users’ needs. We are deliberately asking for feedback on these statistics and, through this site, expect an increased dialogue with users and the scientific community’.

Exchange of experience between statisticians from Bulgaria and Croatia

On May 29, 2017 the National Statistical Institute hosted a workshop between experts from the Statistical offices of Croatia and Bulgaria.

The aim of the meeting was to present the Bulgarian experience in the field of e-census. Bulgarian experts introduced their Croatian colleagues to the preparation, organization and conducting of the e-census in 2011. The methodological and technical problems encountered in its implementation were presented. Issues related to the scope and quality of the information as well as the use of data from administrative registers were discussed.

May 24 - the Day of Bulgarian Education and Culture and Slavonic Alphabet

On 24 May, Bulgaria celebrates the Day of Bulgarian education, culture and the creation of the Slavonic alphabet by St. Cyril and Methodius in the 9th century.

The National Statistical Institute commemorates the 24 May by presenting statistical information on Bulgarian culture as an economic sector.

 

 

Meeting of the European Statistical System Committee

The President of the National Statistical Institute Sergey Tsvetarsky will participate in the 33rd meeting of the European Statistical System Committee (ESSC), to be held on 17 - 18 May 2017 at Eurostat, Luxembourg. This will be the second Committee meeting for this year out of the four regular annual ESSC meetings.

April 7 - World Health Day

In 1948, with the founding of the World Health Organisation, April 7 was chosen as World Health Day. Since 1964, in Bulgaria it has been celebrated as the Day of the Health Worker. Each year, the World Health Organisation focuses on health challenges with global significance. The slogan of this year’s World Health Day is ‘Depression - Let's talk!’

On the World Health Day, the National Statistical Institute presents recent statistical information.

Annual session of the UN Statistical Commission

March 8 - International Women`s Day

In December 1977, the UN General Assembly adopted a special resolution proclaiming March 8 International Women`s Day, originally known as the International Day of Working Women. It is celebrated in more than 30 countries as a day of economic, political and social equality and women`s achievements in all areas.

On the International Women’s Day the National Statistics Institute presents statistical information on the role of women in contemporary Bulgarian society.

First edition of statistical compendium of Principality of Bulgaria already in digital format

On the eve of the national day of the Republic of Bulgaria - March 3, and 120 years since the first statistical compendium of the Principality of Bulgaria has been published Digital library of the National Statistical Institute provides free online access to digital copies of the publication.

The Compendium was published by the Statistical Topographic Department at the Headquarters of the Army in 1897. Captain Atanasov was the compiler.

International conference on Big Data was held in Sofia

The National Statistical Institute hosted and co-organised, together with Statistics Belgium, an international conference at which the results of the ESSnet Big Data project were presented. NSI President Sergey Tsvetarsky, Acting Director-General of Eurostat Mariana Kotzeva, Director-General of Statistics Netherlands Tjark Tjin-A-Tsoi, and project coordinator Peter Struijs participated in the event, which took place on 23 - 24 February 2017 in Sofia.
