The United Nations designate 20 October as World Statistics Day

The General Assembly passed a resolution, by which designated 20 October as World Statistics Day. Based on this decision the United Nations will go on promoting the development of national statistics and improving their comparability, coordinating the statistical work related to the collection, storage and dissemination of statistical information.

130 years Bulgarian Statistics

The Statistical-organizational Department at the Ministry of Finance was founded on 25th June 1880. This is the beginning of the statistical institution in Bulgaria.
In relation with the celebration of the 130th anniversary of Bulgarian statistics, NSI created a blog, which is located at the following web site.

The Partnership Group Meeting will be held on 25th June in Dublin.
At the Meeting, special attention will be devoted to discussions and approval of the agenda of the 96th DGINS on ”Measuring progress, well-being and sustainable development” and the 6th ESSC Meeting, Bulgaria being the host of both meetings within the 29 September – 1 October 2010 period.

The NSI set up a web site in connection with the 96th Conference of the Directors General of the National Statistical Institutes1 of the EU Member States and the 6th meeting of the European Statistical System Committee to be held within the September 29 – October 1, 2010 period in Sofia. The web site address is http://www.dgins-sofia2010.eu.
The Conference is the EU annual forum in the field of statistics, conducted from 1953 up to date.

The BNSI President - Assoc. Prof. Mariana Kotzeva will take part in the 58th plenary session of the Conference of European Statisticians from 8 to 10 June 2010 in Paris. The meeting will be attended by delegations, led by the Directors-General of the Statistical Offices of more than 50 countries, a number of international organizations such as IMF, WB, UNECE, UNICEF and WTO. The European Community will be represented by Eurostat and the European Central Bank.

The BNSI electronic newsletter on international activities in 2009

This year the BNSI tends to issue a newsletter that aims to present the NSI activity in the field of international cooperation on national level, as well as within the ESS framework. It will publish materials and pictures from the most important international events in which NSI has taken part. The first pilot issue covers current events in 2009, while our intention is to have 2 issues in 2010 – one of them will be devoted to the most important international statistical forum during the year, i.e the 96th DGINS conference and Bulgaria being its host.

The European Statistical System training course has started

The Deputy President of the National Statistical Institute Mrs. Gergana Mihaylova welcomed the participants wishing them beneficial outcome of the training course on the European Statistical System. The course is organized within the framework of 2006 Multi-beneficiary Phare Programme for Statistical Cooperation together with Statistics Denmark as a course provider. The period of its implementation is 1-3 June 2010.
