Eurostat visit on Business Statistics

On June 30 and July 1, 2014 the National Statistical Institute hosts a mission from Eurostat, led by the Director of "Global Business Statistics", Mrs. Maria Helena Figueira, which includes two heads of units in the same directorate of Eurostat - Mrs. Martina Hahn, Head of Unit "Business statistics - coordination and registers" and Mrs. Ani Todorova, Head of Unit "Goods - production and international trade."

The National Statistical Institute and 28 regional statistical offices in the country celebrated their professional holiday with Open Doors Day at the Central Statistical Office in Sofia. The day of Bulgarian statistics is celebrated on June 25 - on this date in 1880 was established the statistical-organizational unit of the Ministry of Finance, which marks the beginning of the statistical institution in Bulgaria.

NSI: From 1 October 2014, in GDP there will be estimates of hidden economic activities

Estimates of hidden activities such as prostitution, smuggling and distribution of drugs will be included in the calculation of gross domestic product (GDP) and gross national income (GNI) of Bulgaria. The changes will take effect from 1 October this year, when introducing the so-called European System of Accounts 2010. According to the newly elected President of the NSI Sergey Tsvetarsky the new methodology should replace the current system, which takes into account key macroeconomic indicators to align practices in the EU member states.

Council of Ministers appointed Sergey Tsvetarsky President of NSI

At its regular meeting the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Bulgaria appointed Mr. Sergey Tsvetarsky as President of the National Statistical Institute.

Sergey Tsvetarsky graduated from the University of National and World Economy - Sofia, specialty "Statistics". In his career since 1982, Mr. Tsvetarsky has held various expert and management positions at the NSI. More than 30 years he has worked for the development of the national statistical system.

Meeting of the National Statistical Council

On 4 June 2014, under the chairmanship of Prof. Hristina Vucheva was held a meeting of the National Statistics Council (NSC), which is the highest advisory body in the field of statistics at the national level.

The meeting will focus on presentation and discussion of the Annual Work Program for 2015 of the European Union (Annual Work Programme 2015) and the planned negative priorities. Information about the meeting of the European Statistical System Committee, held on 14th and 15th May 2014 in Luxembourg, was also presented.

The National Statistical Institute has launched a project under OPAC for building a system for quality management

On the 7th of April 2014 the National Statistical Institute started the implementation of a project entitled: “Improving the quality of services for citizens and businesses, establishment and implementation of clear, credible and unified procedures for development of electronic services through the implementation of a system for quality management according to the ISO 9001:2008 standard”. The project is being implemented by a contract № 13-31-20/07.04.2014, between the NSI and the Ministry of Finance, Managing Authority of the Operational Programme “Administrative Capacity”.
