Population census 1934 in digital format

The digital library of the NSI provides users of statistical information the possibility of free online access to 1 605 pages of the digital collection ‘Census of Population and Housing Fund in the Kingdom of Bulgaria on 31 December 1934’, which is published for the first time on the Internet.

On December 31, 1934 began the ninth general population census in the Kingdom of Bulgaria. It was carried out under the Law on General Censuses and Decree No. 2 from April 18, 1934.

Did you know that the population census is a practice that is as old as the state as an institution? It cannot be stated precisely who was the first ruler who counted his male-subjects for military purposes or who prepared a list of households in order to levy them with tax. Since millennia figures obtained from population censuses serve as elements of political propaganda, especially in order to justify expansion of the territory.
 

First coordination meeting between Bulgaria and Estonia on statistics

The Deputy President of the NSI Diana Yancheva will take part in the first coordination meeting between Bulgaria and Estonia on the preparation of the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, to be held in Tallinn, Estonia, between 12 - 15 December 2016.

Ms. Yancheva will hold preparatory talks with her colleagues from Statistics Estonia in order to establish cooperation with the team in charge of organising and conducting the Estonian Presidency and to discuss general coordination matters.

NSI’s Digital library with renovated website

The renovated website of the digital library of the National Statistical Institute was launched. 10 years now the NSI distributes online statistical information and the digital information resources are available globally. Free access is provided to over 1 200 000 digital pages of statistical information. The library site is bilingual. Search on demand is available both in Bulgarian and English. Started is the new ‘Interesting Facts’ rubric which will contain interesting facts about the activities of the statistical institution.

Over two million Bulgarians celebrate on December 6

On December 6, people in Bulgaria celebrate their name day as well as fishermen, sailors, bank employees and dealers. The day was chosen for the official day of our sea city of Bourgas.

European Statistical Programme to be discussed at working party meeting in Brussels

On 6 December 2016 the President of the National Statistical Institute Sergey Tsvetarsky will take part in a meeting of the Council Working Party on Statistics in Brussels, Belgium, to discuss the proposal for a regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council amending Regulation (EU) No 99/2013 of the European Parliament and of the Council on the European Statistical Programme 2013 - 2017, by extending it to 2018 - 2020.

Working meeting in Rome on the upcoming Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union

In relation to the upcoming Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union the President of the NSI Sergey Tsvetarsky will conduct a working visit on the preparation and holding of the Presidency in the Italian National Institute of Statistics (Istat) in Rome between 30 November and 1 December 2016. During the visit Mr. Tsvetarsky will familiarise himself with Italy’s extensive experience in chairing the Council Working Party on Statistics.

At the meeting of The National Statistical Council (NSC), held on November 24, 2016, the Report on the implementation of the National Statistical Programme and the Activity of the NSI in 2016 was discussed and adopted. A detailed review of the implementation of all statistical surveys and strategic priorities in 2016 was made in the Report. The members of the National Statistical Council expressed their positive opinion on its content and scope.
