Mariana Kotzeva became the Acting Director-General of Eurostat

On 1 January this year, Mariana Kotzeva became the Acting Director-General of Eurostat. Mrs Kotzeva's appointment follows the retirement of Walter Radermacher, in charge of Eurostat from 1 August 2008 until the end of 2016.

Mariana Kotzeva joined Eurostat as a special adviser (Adviser   hors classe) in April 2012.

In July 2014, she became Deputy Director-General, a post she still holds today.

Mariana Kotzeva is Bulgarian Statistics school alumnus. Prior to joining the European Commission, Mrs Kotzeva was the Head of Bulgaria’s National Statistical Institute during the period 2008 - 2012.

She held a number of high-level consulting posts in the Bulgarian and foreign administrations and led international projects for the United Nations and the World Bank.

Mrs Kotzeva has a Master's degree in economics and a PhD in statistics and econometrics at the University of National and World Economy in Sofia.
