Inflation and Consumer Price Indices in January 2020
According to the preliminary data of the NSI, the consumer price index in January 2020 compared to December 2019 was 100.9%, i.e. the monthly inflation was 0.9%.

According to the preliminary data of the National Statistical Institute at the end of December 2019 the number of employees under labour contract decreased by 1.0% as compared to the end of September 2019 and reached 2.29 million.
In the fourth quarter of 2019 in comparison with the third quarter of 2019 the average monthly wages and salaries increased by 5.1% getting 1 313 BGN.
In December 2019, 2 024 accommodation establishments - hotels, motels, camping sites, mountain chalets and other establishments for short-term accommodation with more than 10 bed-places were functioned in the country. The total number of the rooms in them was 58.6 thousand and the bed-places were 119.6 thousand. In comparison with December 2018, the total number of accommodation establishments (functioned during the period) increased by 1.4%, while the bed-places in them decreased by 0.2%.
The total number of the nights spent in all accommodation establishments registered in December 2019 was 905.2 thousand, or by 7.2% more in comparison with the same month of the previous year.
The total revenues from nights spent in December 2019 reached 52.3 million BGN or by 8.1% more compared to December 2018.
In the period January - November 2019 the Bulgarian exports to the EU grew by 3.4 % compared to the same period of 2018 and amounted to 36 223.9 Million BGN while the imports from the EU increased by 2.7% and reached 37 818.3 Million BGN.
In November 2019 the exports to the EU grew by 3.2 % compared to the corresponding month of the previous year and amounted to 3 542.8 Million BGN while the imports increased by 3.0% and added up to 3 705.6 Million BGN.
In 2019 the exports of goods from Bulgaria to third countries increased by 4.4% compared to 2018 and amounted to 19 130.4 Million BGN while the imports of goods from third countries decreased by 11.9% and added up to 20 245.7 Million BGN.
In 2019 the total value of all exported goods to third countries and EU amounted to 57 901.4 Million BGN, which is 3.3% more than the previous year, while the total value of all imported goods from third countries and EU added up to 61 272.8 Million BGN and dropped by 2.5%.
According to the preliminary data, in December 2019 the index of production in section ‘Construction’ calculated on the base of seasonally adjusted data was 0.7% below the level of the previous month. In December 2019 the working day adjusted index of production in construction also decreased by 0.7% in comparison with the same month of 2018.
According to the preliminary seasonally adjusted data in December 2019 the turnover in ‘Retail trade, except of motor vehicles and motorcycles’ at constant prices increased by 0.7% compared to the previous month.
According to the preliminary data in December 2019 the Industrial Production Index, seasonally adjusted, fell by 1.8% as compared to November 2019. In December 2019 the working day adjusted Industrial Production Index decreased by 1.5% in comparison with the same month of 2018.
According to preliminary data of the National Statistical Institute in the fourth quarter of 2019 the number of newly built residential buildings was 1 057 and the newly built dwellings in them were 4 474. Compared to the fourth quarter of 2018 the buildings were by 335 more (or by 46.4%) and the newly built dwellings in them increased by 2 101 or by 88.5%.
In January 2020, the total consumer confidence indicator decreases by 0.5 percentage points in comparison with its October 2019 level, which is due entirely to the decreased confidence among the urban population.
