Annual Conference of the Directors-General of National Statistical Institutes and meeting of the European Statistical System Committee

The Conference of the Directors-General of National Statistical Institutes (DGINS) is the most important forum in the European Union for discussions about the future and development of the European Statistical System (ESS). It is held once a year in one of the EU Member States. The Director-General of the host country's National Statistical Institute acts as chairperson. The Heads of the National Statistical Offices, representatives of the European Commission, the United Nations and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development participate in this meeting.

This year the host of the 101st DGINS Conference is the National Statistical Institute of Portugal. The forum will take place on 23-24 September 2015 in Lisbon, and its main topic is ‘Indicators for decision making and monitoring’.

On the next day, September 25th, back-to-back with the DGINS Conference, a regular meeting of the European Statistical System Committee (ESSC) will be held. The ESSC will discuss the progress report on the implementation of the ESS Vision 2020, the proposal for extending the European Statistical Programme 2013-2017 to 2018-2020 in order to synchronise it with the EU Multiannual Financial Framework 2014-2020, as well as the process of standardisation.

Comitology items cover derogations and indicative compendium of environmental goods and services pursuant to Regulation (EU) No 691/2011 on European environmental economic accounts;  Community Statistics on Income and Living Conditions (EU-SILC) as regards the 2017 list of target secondary variables on health and children health.

The President of the National Statistical Institute, Sergey Tsvetarsky, will participate in both events.
