In 2023, the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Bulgaria is 185.233 billion BGN. The growth rate of GDP is 1.9% compared to 2022. The data was presented during a press conference by the President of the NSI, Assoc. Prof. Atanas Atanasov and the Deputy President, Svilen Kolev, PhD.
Updated data for 2023 and revised data for the period 2014-2022 for GDP and GNI were presented as a result of this year’s coordinated harmonized benchmark revision in the EU Member States, the countries from the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), as well as in the countries participating in the EU enlargement negotiations.
During the press conference, it became clear that the Gross Value Added (GVA) for 2023 in nominal terms amounted to 162.4 billion BGN or a growth of 1.3% compared to the previous year, with the largest share held by the Services sector – 71.3%.
It was noted that as a result of the revision, the GDP growth in the previous years had changed minimally compared to previously published data.
The President of the NSI pointed out that the presented data were a result of a benchmark revision, conducted once every 5 years and carried out in accordance with the Harmonized European Revision Policy (HERP) developed by the European Statistical System (ESS) and the European System of Central Banks (ESCB). “Benchmark revisions involve national statistical institutes as well as national central banks and other statistical authorities. The next such revision will take place in 2029,” he added.
