Goods and passengers carried and transport performance by mode of transport in the Second Quarter of 2022 (preliminary data)
There was an increase in the goods carried and the transport performance by the freight land and water transport increased by 1.7% and 5.6%, respectively. The data are preliminary.
Compared to the corresponding quarter of the previous year the number of transported passengers by the passenger transport (land, water and urban electrical transport) rose by 17.4%. The transport performance also increased by 30.5% compared to the second quarter of 2021.
Freight land transport
The transported goods by the land transport were by 1.8% more and the transport performance rose by 5.9% than the same quarter of 2021.
Freight water transport
The transported goods by the sea and inland waterway transport went up by 1.3%, while the transport performance, measured in tonne-kilometres, declined by 8.7% in comparison with the same quarter of 2021.
Passengers land transport
The number of the transported passengers was by 14.3% more and the transport performance growth by 31.4% compared to the second quarter of the previous year.
Passengers water transport
In the second quarter of 2022, there was an increase of the transported passengers by water transport by 24.0 thousand passengers as well in the transport performance by 117.6 thousand pkm.
Urban electrical transport
During the period April - June of 2022 the enterprises performing urban electrical transport transported by 22.1% more passengers than the same period of 2021. The transport performance increased by 24.9%.
Turnover Indices in Services in the Second Quarter of 2022
According to the preliminary data for the second quarter of 2022, the total turnover index in the section ‘Transportation, storage and post’, calculated on the basis of seasonally adjusted data, rose by 9.8% compared to the first quarter of 2022. In the section ‘Information and communication’ the turnover index increased by 5.4%.
Tourist Trips and Tourism-related Expenditure of the Population in the Second Quarter of 2022 (preliminary data)
In the second quarter of 2022, 1 076.6 thousand Bulgarian residents made tourist trips. The majority - 80.0% of them travelled only within the country, 15.7% - only abroad and 4.3% - both within the country and abroad. Compared to the same quarter of 2021, the total number of the travelled persons aged 15 and over increased by 15.5%.

In the second quarter of 2022 the unemployment rate was 4.7%, and the employment rate of population aged 20 - 64 was 75.0%.

According to the seasonally adjusted data, GDP has a growth of 4.8% in the second quarter of 2022 compared to the second quarter of the previous year.
Inflation and Consumer Price Indices in July 2022
In July 2022, the monthly inflation rate, measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI), was 1.1% compared to the previous month, and the annual inflation rate in July 2022 compared to July 2021 was 17.3%.
In July 2022 compared to June 2022, the highest price increase was registered for Recreation and culture (+7.4%), Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (+5.2%) and Restaurants and hotels (+1.2%). The highest decrease was recorded in the prices for Clothing and footwear (-2.0%), Transport (-1.7%) and Food and non-alcoholic beverages (-0.1%).
In July 2022, the monthly inflation rate, measured by the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP), was 0.8% compared to the previous month, and the annual inflation rate in July 2022 compared to July 2021 was 14.9%.
Household Income, Expenditure and Consumption during the Second Quarter of 2022
The total income average per household member during the second quarter of 2022 is 2 207 BGN and increases by 16.5% compared to the same quarter of 2021.
The total expenditure average per household member during the second quarter of 2022 is 1 962 BGN and increases by 17.8% compared to the same quarter of 2021.
The consumption of most basic food products average per household member decreases during the second quarter of 2022 compared to the same quarter of 2021.
Price Indices in Agriculture, Second Quarter of 2022
The producer price index in agriculture in the second quarter of 2022 increased by 37.5% in comparison with the same quarter of 2021. The price index of crop output increased by 46.4% and the animal output increased by 26.9%. In comparison with the previous year, the prices of agricultural output went up by 34.5%, as in crop output they increased by 42.6%, and in animal output - by 24.8%.
The index of prices of goods and services currently consumed in agriculture in the second quarter of 2022 was higher by 46.2% compared to the same quarter of the previous year and by 38.1% compared to 2021.
Employees under Labour Contract and Gross Average Wages and Salaries, Second Quarter of 2022
According to the preliminary data of the National Statistical Institute at the end of June 2022, the number of employees under labour contract increased by 1.5% as compared to the end of March 2022 and reached 2.31 million.
In the second quarter of 2022, in comparison with the first quarter of 2022, the average monthly wages and salaries increased by 7.8% and reached 1 730 BGN.
Trade in goods of Bulgaria with EU in the Period January - May 2022 (preliminary data)
In the period January - May 2022, the exports of goods from Bulgaria to the EU increased by 43.5% compared to the same period of 2021 and amounted to 25 350.1 million BGN, while the imports of goods to Bulgaria from the EU grew by 30.6% and reached 23 309.6 million BGN.
In May 2022, the exports to the EU increased by 72.4% compared to the corresponding month of the previous year and amounted to 5 788.2 million BGN, while the imports grew by 36.0% and added up to 5 013.6 million BGN.
