Successfully launched the Second EU Twinning Project with the State Statistical Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan

On January 27, 2016 in Baku, Republic of Azerbaijan was held Kick-off meeting of Twinning project AZ/14/ENP/ST/32 ‘Support to the State Statistical Committee in harmonisation of the National Statistics System of the Republic of Azerbaijan in line with European standards’ in which the National Statistical Institute of Bulgaria is Junior Member State Partner.

The aim of the Kick-off meeting is to inform the stakeholders and the general public with the objective, purpose and mandatory results of the project. Bulgaria was represented by Mr. Sergey Tsvetarsky, President of the BNSI and Junior Member State Partner Project Leader, Mr. Bogdan Bogdanov PhD, Deputy President of the BNSI and Component Leader 3 Statistics on income and living conditions, the Resident Twinning Adviser Mr. Arslan Ahmedov and Mr. Zhivko Zlatanski, Consul of the Republic of Bulgaria in Baku.

The meeting was opened by Mr.Tahir Budagov, Chairman of the State Statistical Committee, the Republic of Azerbaijan, beneficiary of the twinning project. It was attended by the Head of EU Delegation to Republic of Azerbaijan H.E. Ms. Ambassador Malena Mard, H.E German Ambassador Ms. Heidrun Tempel, Mr. Dieter Sarreither, President of the Federal Statistical Office of Germany, Mr. Youri Skaskevitch form International Cooperation Department in Eurostat. On behalf of the Republic of Azerbaijan was attended the Minister of Economy and the Chairman of the Committee for economy, industry and entrepreneurship, Milli Meclis of the Republic of Azerbaijan, representatives of the Central Bank of Republic of Azerbaijan. Experts from the World Bank, UNICEF, UNCHR also attended the meeting.

The same day was held very useful meeting of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev with Mr. Sergey Tsvetarsky, Mr. Dieter Sarreither and Mr. Tahir Budagov, which he noted the importance of the new project for the reform in the statistical system of the Republic of Azerbaijan (http://ru.president.az/articles/17591).

On January 28, 2016 in Baku will be held the first Steering Committee Meeting of Twinning project AZ/14/ENP/ST/32. It will be made monitoring under the implementation of the objectives up to now, outlining future joint activities and will be considered and endorsement first quarterly report. The Steering Committee has several main tasks: to monitor progress in accordance with the agreed schedules and performance indicators, to discuss and verify the achievement of the outputs and mandatory results and discuss actions to be undertaken of the twinning project.

The implementation period of the Twinning project AZ/14/ENP/ST/32 ‘Support to the State Statistical Committee in harmonisation of the National Statistics System of the Republic of Azerbaijan in line with European standards’ is 24 months and the total value amounted to EUR 1.178.763.
