The National Statistical Institute organizes the competition on the occasion of European Statistics Day
On September 20, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) announces a contest for a statistical essay on the topic: 'The importance of official statistics in the modern world of information and disinformation.' Students between IX and XII grades from all over the country can take part in it. The initiative is being held on the occasion of October 20 - European Statistics Day, when the awardees will be announced.
Students will have three weeks (until October 14) to send their works to [email protected]. The volume of the essays should be up to three pages, and the goal is to rely on statistical information to argue the thesis and to use appropriate means of visualizing the data - tables, graphs, cartograms and others. The first prize is BGN 300.
The statistical essay competition is the latest of the initiatives that NSI organizes with the aim of increasing the functional literacy and statistical culture of students, provoking the creative potential of teenagers and developing their skills for critical thinking and working with data. Within the framework of similar projects organized by NSI, this year Bulgarian high school students won the European Statistics Competition, and last year our junior high school team won first place in the European Statistics poster competition.
