In March 2021 The National Statistical Institute started the work on the “Improving data for circular economy - packaging waste and construction waste” project. The implementation of the project is in accordance with Grant Agreement with the European Commission № 101023440 — 2020-BG-CEPCW.
The overall objective of the project is to focus on the streamlining the national data collection system for packaging (specifically lightweight plastic carrier bags) and construction and demolition waste. The specific objectives are: research of new methodological materials; identification of possible new sources of information; obtaining data on the quantities of generated and treated waste; improving the quality of the data reported under EU legislation; providing more accurate statistical information on circular economy indicators; development of methodology for experimental accounts for construction and demolition waste.
The activities include: improving the availability and quality of statistics on packaging waste by improving and expanding the methodology systems for the generation of plastic packaging; improving the availability and quality of construction waste statistics by increasing the scope of the survey with administrative/statistical data; developing experimental accounts for construction and demolition waste according Regulation No 691/2011.
The expected results from the project are: improvement of the quality of the indicators of the circular economy; improvement of the statistics on packaging (including lightweight plastic carrier bags) and construction waste; development of experimental accounts for construction waste.
Benefits from the project will be: ensuring comparability between the nationally used methods for collecting, analysing and interpreting of waste data and the European Statistical System methodologies between EU Member States; providing valuable input for evaluation and development of EU policies on waste statistic including experimental accounts for construction and demolition waste according Regulation No 691/2011.
The duration of the project is 18 months and it will end in August 2022.
