Eighteen teams from Burgas, Varna, Gotse Delchev, Dobrich, Pazardzhik, Plovdiv, Pernik, Troyan, Sofia, Silistra and Shumen reached the final stage of the first statistical Datathon for students, organized by the National Statistical Institute.
Students from classes X to XII from secondary schools across the country were eligible to participate, and the aim of the new NSI initiative is to increase the statistical literacy of high school students by giving them the opportunity to work out solutions on a certain database.
A special jury evaluated and ranked the participants who had to submit online entries on the topic ‘The impact of physical activity on the health status of the population in Bulgaria‘ in the first stage from May 8 to May 28, 2023. The condition of the task was to use only NSI and Eurostat data.
The second final stage of Datathon 2023 will be held at the end of June at a location designated by the NSI and will include the communication of a developed solution, which the contestants must obtain in their collective work at the time. Concentration and teamwork in unconventional settings, consideration of the limited time, the influence of the mentor on the contestants' work, and the presence of leadership skills among the youth will be important for a good ranking.
