On November 17, 2022, at the National Library ‘Ivan Vazov’ in Plovdiv, a specialised training was held with lecturers from the National Statistical Institute (NSI) and the GATE Institute at Sofia University ‘St. Kliment Ohridski’ on the following theme: Practical approaches to detecting disinformation". In front of an audience of about 50 people, representatives of the community centres of Plovdiv and the region, were focused on the concepts of disinformation, misinformation, fake news, ways of dissemination, methods of verifying the truth, and the public importance of combating these phenomena. On behalf of the NSI, Antoaneta Ilkova, Director of the Multi-Domain Statistics and User Services Directorate, presented the NSI as a source of quality and reliable statistical information, the institute's initiatives to increase statistical literacy, the digital library, and the cooperation with other governmental, academic, and non-governmental institutions in providing accurate, clear, and objective information to the public. Desislava Mancheva, Head of the User Relations and e-Services Department, presented the NSI website and the Infostat IS with their accessibility, timeliness, and comprehensiveness of the data offered.
NSI is an organisation that actively participates in the process of achieving information literacy among citizens and is open to joint action with all stakeholders for a clean and fair information space.
