In July 2020, during the continuing epidemic situation in the country, the number of the trips of Bulgarian residents abroad was 316.6 thousand, or by 59.4% under the registered in July 2019.
In July 2020, the number of arrivals of visitors from abroad to Bulgaria was 705.6 thousand or by 66.1% less in comparison with July 2019.
In August 2020, the National Statistical Institute conducted the monthly inquiry survey of the managers of accommodation establishments to gather accurate and timely information on the state and development of their businesses during the ensuing epidemic situation in the country.
Main results from the short business survey amongst the non-financial enterprises, aiming at presenting to the society and policy makers information on the economic effects from the declared state of emergency in the country due to COVID-19.
According to the preliminary data for the second quarter of 2020 the total turnover index in section ‘Transportation, storage and post’, calculated on the basis of seasonally adjusted data decreased by 21.8% compared to the first quarter of 2020. In section ‘Information and communication’ the turnover index decreased by 4.4%.
In the second quarter of 2020, in a state of emergency and the ensuing epidemic situation in the country, 447.2 thousand Bulgarian residents made tourist trips. The majority (92.7%) of them travelled only within the country, 6.8% - only abroad and 0.5% - both in the country and abroad. Compared to the same quarter of 2019 the total number of the travelled persons aged 15 and over decreased by 63.3%.
The total income average per household member during the second quarter of 2020 is 1 698 BGN and increases by 9.7% compared to the same quarter of 2019.
The total expenditure average per household member during the second quarter of 2020 is 1 384 BGN and decreases by 1.3% in comparison to the same quarter of 2019.
The consumption of main food products average per household member does change during the second quarter of 2020 compared to the same quarter of 2019.
The NSI management and the team from the Central Office conducting the Household Budget Survey express their gratitude to all households and teams from RSOs that participated in the second quarter of 2020. In the extreme situation with COVID-19, they all showed understanding, empathy and responsibility for working on that survey.
The consumer price index in July 2020 compared to June 2020 was 100.5%, i.e. the monthly inflation was 0.5%.
Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the second quarter of 2020 declined by 11.7% in EU-27 compared to the previous quarter by seasonally adjusted data. For the same period, GDP in Bulgaria decreased by 9.8%.
The producer price index in agriculture in the second quarter of 2020 increased by 2.8% in comparison with the same quarter of 2019. The crop output index increased by 3.7% and in animal output - by 1.6%. Compared to previous year, the prices of agricultural output went up by 4.3% as the increase in crop output prices was by 7.5%, while the prices of animal output remained almost unchanged.
The index of prices of goods and services currently consumed in agriculture in the second quarter of 2020 was by 5.3% lower compared to the same quarter of previous year and by 4.2% compared to 2019.
