Working Meeting of the Directorate General for Regional Statistics of the European Commission
On 1st December 2010 the President of the NSI Assoc. Prof. Mariana Kotzeva will participate in the meeting of the Directorate General for Regional Policy at the European Commission in Brussels.
The meeting is the result of the discussions during the 96th Conference of the Directors General of the National Statistical Institutes (DGINS) held this September in Sofia for improving existing and developing additional key indicators for regional development. They are extremely important for the implementation of the Cohesion policy of the EC.
Main importance will be given to improving data for economic development, social policy and environment at regional level, without increasing the burden on respondents. These indicators should be an integral part of the annual statistical program of Eurostat.
The meeting is organized in cooperation and under the direction of Ms. Marie Bohata – Deputy Director General of Eurostat. The chairpersons of several statistical offices - the Czech Republic, Estonia, Germany, France and Portugal, will participate in the meeting.
Participation of the NSI in the Conference “Simply 2010” in Ghent
During her visit to Belgium Assoc. Prof. Mariana Kotzeva will take part in the organized by the Statistical Office of Belgium conference on “Reducing administrative burden in official statistics”. The conference is the main event in the field of statistics within the Belgian Presidency and will be held on 2-3 December 2010 in Ghent.
During the two-day discussions will be considered one of the main issues raised on the 94th Conference of the Directors General of the National Statistical Institutes (DGINS) in Vilnius, Lithuania, 2008 - the reduction of administrative burden caused by official statistics.
SIMPLY2010 will offer participants a general platform for high-level discussions on various types of administrative simplification.
It will in particular focus on good practices developed by the National Statistical Institutes of various Member States and promote the exchange of ideas and projects in this field.
The conference will be opened by the acting Director General of the Belgian Statistical office Annie Versonnen and Mr. Niko Demeester from the Ministery of Enterprise and Simplification. The Director General of Eurostat, Mr. Walter Radermacher will also deliver a speech at the opening.
