“The beyond GDP agenda: past, present, visions for the future” was the theme of this year’s Conference of European Statistics Stakeholders (CESS) 2024, which was attended by the President of NSI, Assoc. Prof. Atanas Atanasov. The event was held on 15 and 16 October 2024 at the headquarters of the Banque de France in Paris and was jointly organized by Eurostat and the European Central Bank under the aegis of the European Statistical Advisory Committee (ESAC). It was hosted by the French national statistical office (INSEE) and the national central bank (Banque de France).

The aim of the CESS Conference 2024 is to enhance the dialogue between producers, methodologists and users of European statistics: identifying users’ requirements, sharing producers’ best practices, exploring innovative ideas for data collection and analysis. The conference focused on the many initiatives that have been taken to enrich the economic indicators and get a broader view of well-being and its sustainability.

Among the participants in the conference were representatives from national statistical institutes and central banks of EU Member States, representatives from the Paris School of Economics (PSE) and institutions playing crucial role in the statistical dialogue at national level in France.

The European Statistical Advisory Committee (ESAC) was established in 2008 by a Decision of the European Parliament and the Council and aims to ensure that user requirements as well as the response burden on information providers and producers of official statistics are taken into account in developing EU Statistical Programmes. The ESAC is composed of 24 members representing users, respondents and other stakeholders of European Statistics (including the scientific community, social partners and civil society) and delivers its opinion on the Multiannual Statistical Programme and the balance between priorities and resources in the different statistical domains.
