The training course “Introduction to theory and organization of statistical surveys”, held in the NSI Training and Qualification Centre in Slivek, Lovech Region, was carried out within the Programme ‘Building of Administrative capacity and democratic institutions’ of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria. The training programme was elaborated and organized jointly with the University for National and World Economy – Sofia.
In the first two days of the course the young statisticians were introduced to the basic concepts in the statistical theory and the organization of statistical sample surveys by assoc. prof. Alexander Naydenov from UNWE’s “Statistics and Econometrics” Department.
In the next two days leading NSI experts presented their practical experience in the field of statistical surveys. Lybomira Dimitrova, Svetoslava Filipovich, Milka Galabova, Rasim Ruistem, Elena Bakalova, Valentin Chavdarov, Galya Stateva, PhD and Kostadin Georgiev acquainted the participants with the practices in the fields of short-term and structural business statistics, labour force survey, demography and social statistics, macroeconomic statistics and national accounts, as well as alternative data sources (Big Data). The variety of topics and the great academic background of the speakers gave the opportunity to the young statisticians to take active part in the following discussions.
At the end of the training Bogdan Bogdanov, PhD, BNSI Deputy President held a round table dedicated to various issues of interest to the young statisticians – the National Statistical System of the Republic of Bulgaria, the trust in the official statistics, the opportunities for career development in the statistical offices.
The course was closed by Sergey Tsvetarski, President of NSI, who awarded certificates to all participants, signed by him and by the Rector of the University of National and World Economy - Prof. D.Sc.(Econ.) Statty Stattev. In conclusion, Sergey Tsvetarski, President of NSI presented his views on the future development of European statistics, as well as on the future image of young statisticians, on the need for continuous development of the cooperation in our region as well as on the need for constant self-improvement of young statisticians as a guarantee for successful career growth.
On behalf of all participants the representative of the winning team expressed their gratitude for the cordial welcome and interesting lectures as well as for the opportunity to get acquainted with Bulgaria during their visits to Lovech, Veliko Tarnovo and Sofia.
