This year the session will be conducted under the moto “Better data. Better lives.” With this slogan was celebrated for the second time the World Statistics Day on October 20, 2015.

In this respect, there will be an exhibition of materials for the celebration of the World Statistics Day in different countries. Bulgaria will participate in the exhibition with a poster containing a map of the country and photos from discussions with students carried out in Sofia and other regional cities.

Traditionally UNSC organises a number of side events to the regular session. This year a special seminar will be conducted on March 4, 2016 dedicated to the increased role of various administrative data and of Big Data in official statistics in general, and civil registration and vital statistics in particular.

Sergey Tsvetarsky will participate in the discussions and will hold a series of meetings with his colleagues on topical issues.

Since 1947 the UN Statistical Commission has a guiding role in setting standards and outlining directions of the global statistical system. UNSC and Eurostat, as the EU statistical authority, together with the national statistical institutes, establish standards and methodological principles for the global statistical community. UNSC sessions are held once a year and their work programme covers different statistical domains, and provides room for consideration of methodological issues and discussions.
