100th Conference of the Directors-General of the National Statistical Institutes (DGINS) and 22nd meeting of the European Statistical System Committee

On 24 and 25 September 2014 in Riga, Latvia, the 100th Conference of the Directors-General of the National Statistical Institutes (DGINS) will be held. The European Statistical System Committee shall meet on 26 September 2014. The representative of Bulgaria in both forums will be Mrs. Diana Yancheva, Deputy President of the National Statistical Institute.

Hosting the annual DGINS Conference is carried out on a rotation basis in one of the Member States. The 96th DGINS Conference took place in Sofia at the end of September 2010 and was devoted to the topic “Measuring progress, well-being and sustainable development”.

Right after the DGINS Conference, on 26 September 2014, the European Statistical System Committee (ESSC) will hold its 22nd meeting. This will be the third out of four ESSC meetings for the calendar year, chaired by Eurostat and attended by the Heads of National Statistical Offices of the Member States and representatives of EFTA countries, ECB and OECD.

According to the agenda, ESSC will decide on four comitology items in the following statistical areas: two items as regards statistics on health care expenditure and financing; Community statistics on income and living conditions (EU-SILC) as regards the 2016 list of target secondary variables on access to services; statistics on pesticides, as regards transmission format.

The items for opinion cover the reports of the Task Force on Vision 2020; the mandate of the European Master in Official Statistics (EMOS) Board; Big Data and Official Statistics: ESS Action Plan & Roadmap; Proposal for a Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council on Harmonised Indices of Consumer Prices and repealing Regulation (EC) No 2494/95.

The progress report on the ESS peer reviews, as well as the reports of the Partnership Group, the Presidency (Italy), the progress on implementing the European System of National and Regional Accounts (ESA 2010) and other strategic papers will be presented during the meeting.

The proposal for an exchange of views between the members of the European Statistical System Committee (ESSC) and the European Statistical Governance Advisory Board (ESGAB) is included for a discussion on the agenda.
