Meeting of SEEMIG project partners, 28 - 30 January 2014, Sofia

On 28 and 29 January 2014 in Sofia was held a working meeting on the project "Migration management and its influence in Southeast Europe - international activities for developing strategies based on evidence" (SEEMIG), which is implemented under the Operational Programme transnational cooperation "South East Europe 2007 - 2013" (http://www.southeast-europe.net/hu/).

SEEMIG is a strategic project aimed at the study of the trends of migration in South-Eastern Europe, thus contributing to the creation of strategies based on evidence and will assist decision makers and administrative bodies of the transnational, national and local levels to deal with the effects of migration, demographic processes and processes in the labour market of the region.

The workshop was attended by project partners from eight countries (Austria, Bulgaria, Hungary, Italy, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia and Slovenia). They were members of the national statistical institutes and researchers from the Institute for Demographic Research (Hungary), University of Trento (Italy), University of Vienna and others. Reneta Indjova, Ph.D. - President of the National Statistical Institute, opened the meeting and participated in the plenary session of the workshop.

The program of the partnership meeting was devoted to the upcoming project activities of the SEEMIG project. The NSI as a coordinator will work in collaboration and partnership with the national institutions involved in the development and implementation of strategic policies on migration and its impact on demographic trends and the labour market.

To support the development of policies at national, regional and local level, the project aims at cooperation with academic and research institutes to create effective policies based on reliable statistical data. NSI will continue its active participation in the creation and maintenance of transnational databases as well.

On 30.01.2014 the heads of the various work packages of the SEEMIG project held a workshop where the forthcoming actions were planned.
