NSI has started a project with continuous actions “Price statistics – methodological and practical improvements”, in accordance with the Grant agreement with the European Commission № 20601.2012.001-2012.286.
The project covers two main actions and will ensure the continuity of work, methodological and practical improvements on:
- А.1 “Multipurpose price statistics” - elaboration of methodology and production of indicative average prices of a set of products with harmonized characteristics.
- А.2 “Housing statistics“ - improvements on the production of owner-occupied housing indices within the context of HICP and developing a pilot system on self-standing house price indices.
The aims and results expected on the project’s actions are:
А.1 “Multipurpose price statistics”.
Process on price registration will continue in 2014 and will be improved. Indicative monthly average prices will be produced based on a set of products with harmonized descriptions, which will ensure price level comparability between EU member states. Prices will be used in the Commission’s Consumer Markets Scoreboard 2015.
An inventory of data sources and methods for construction and calculation of Bulgarian HICP according to the level of details approved by Price Statistics Working Group will be undertaken within this action.
А.2 “Housing statistics”
The aim of the project is to develop a statistical system for production of Owner-Occupied Housing (OOH) price indices and House Price Indices (HPI), in order to produce and publish harmonized and comparable housing price indices and indices of related expenditures, occurred to households.
Under the framework of this project Bulgaria will develop the system of OOH and HPI indices in 2014 ensuring uninterrupted production of housing price indices and indices of other costs and will establish pilot production system for “Major repairs and maintenance” which is part of housing statistics.
The project has maximum action duration of 27 months and will be implemented from January 2013 until March 2015. Main results on action A.2 “Housing statistics” will be published on the NSI’s website.
