The President of the NSI Assoc. Prof. Mariana Kotzeva will participate in the 42nd regular session of the United Nations Statistical Commission from 19 to 24 February 2011. During the meetings of this highest forum in the field of statistics a number of topics will be discussed that have global importance for the development of statistics worldwide, including celebration of the World Statistics Day on 20 October 2010, progress in the implementation of the System of National Accounts 2008, progress in revising the Integrated System of Environmental-Economic Accounting, proposal for the adoption of International Recommendations on Energy Statistics, the Guidelines on the principles and practices of integrated statistics, prepared by the Statistical Commission, as well as topics in the field of Short-term economic indicators, the International Comparison Programme, Statistics of human development, implementation of the Fundamental Principles of Official Statistics, etc. A report of the Friends of the Chair Group, in the work of which the NSI President is actively participating, will be presented on the review of indicators on violence against women.
In addition to the official session a number of accompanying meetings will be held, such as a special seminar, dedicated to ”Shifting Paradigms: Innovative Statistical Frameworks to meet Global Challenges”, as well as a High Level Forum on the topic “Fundamental Principles of Official Statistics: Threats and Responses”. There will also be a meeting on the project of the UK Department for International Development (DFID) “Compilation and Dissemination of National Development Indicators: Identifying Common Implementation Strategies among Project Countries”.
Ms. Kotzeva is expected to hold several bilateral and multilateral meetings with heads of statistical offices – including a meeting with the Heads of Statistical Offices of EU Member States, a meeting with the countries from the Group for South-East Cooperation, of which Bulgaria is an active member, as well as meetings with colleagues from the countries of the Eastern Partnership.
On 24th February there will be a meeting of the OECD Committee on Statistics at which Bulgaria is expecting to be invited to participate in the annual Committee meeting in June 2011.
