The Statistical-organizational Department at the Ministry of Finance was founded on 25th June 1880. This is the beginning of the statistical institution in Bulgaria.
In relation with the celebration of the 130th anniversary of Bulgarian statistics, NSI created a blog, which is located at the following web site.
The blog contains interesting facts about the history of Bulgarian statistics, photo exhibition, links to the digital library, EUROSTAT and others. Opinions of users of statistical information can be published.
In relation with the celebration in the 28 Regional Statistical Offices a day of open doors will be announced. Everyone will be able to learn about the ways of collection, processing and dissemination of statistical data. There are also different accompanying activities: presentations, exhibitions, press conferences, distribution of brochures, leaflets, meetings with partners, students.
In the library of the National Statistical Institute in Sofia (2, Panayot Volov Str) there is an exhibition entitled “130 years Bulgarian statistics”, which can be visited every day from 09:00 to 17:00.
The celebration of the anniversary began at the beginning of the year with a traveling exhibition containing photos of statistical publications and documents, which were exhibited in many cities. At the same time conferences and roundtables on the role and importance of statistical research in the development of economy and society were held.
The most representative event with international participation, on which the 130th anniversary will be marked, is the upcoming 96th Conference of the Directors General of the National Statistical Instituted of the EU Member States (DGINS) and the 6th meeting of the European Statistical System Committee (ESSC) which will be held from 29th September to 1st October 2010 in Sofia.
