The NSI set up a web site in connection with the 96th Conference of the Directors General of the National Statistical Institutes1 of the EU Member States and the 6th meeting of the European Statistical System Committee to be held within the September 29 – October 1, 2010 period in Sofia. The web site address is http://www.dgins-sofia2010.eu.
The Conference is the EU annual forum in the field of statistics, conducted from 1953 up to date.
It is attended by the Directors General of the National Statistical Institutes of all EU Member States, as well as by Heads of the statistical departments of more than 10 international organizations, i.e. UN, World Bank, IMF, UNESCO and others. The strategic development of statistics up to 2020 will be discussed in Sofia, in response to the new EU strategy - "Europe 2020".
The theme of the conference is “Measuring progress, well-being and sustainable development”. The Heads of the statistical offices of the EU Member States will exchange experience and new ideas for better measuring progress in three directions: household perspective and distributional aspects of income and consumption, environmental sustainability and multidimensional measures of quality of life.
