The Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) calculated by the National Statistical Institute (NSI) is in line with the European Union (EU) requirements and is comparable to that of other Member States. This is the main finding of the Eurostat report, which reflects the results of an assessment of Bulgaria's compliance with the existing legal framework and established recommendations for HICPs, as well as other guidelines and good practices in the area of consumer price indices. The report is based on an in-depth examination of the sources and methods used for the production of HICP for 2024, as well as on discussions held during the mission of the experts from the EU’s statistical office at the National Statistical Institute in the middle of September 2024.
HICP is a comparable inflation measure for the EU countries. It is one of the criteria for price stability and for Bulgaria's accession to the eurozone. The index measures the overall relative change in the level of prices of goods and services consumed by the Bulgarian households, including institutional households and foreign households on the country's economic territory.
The report will be published on Eurostat's official website.
