Within the framework of the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the EU, the President of the NSI Assoc. Prof. Atanas Atanasov, PhD participated in a high-level meeting of the heads of the National Statistical Institutes of the European Statistical System /ESS/, which was held in Seville from 27 to 28 November 2023. The main topic of the discussions was “Integration and Interoperability Strategies for Modernizing Official Statistics”. This provided the participants with an excellent opportunity to exchange experiences and ideas on data integration and interoperability towards the modernization of statistical production.
Assoc. Prof. Atanasov participated in the session on “Experiences in data infrastructure integration”, the purpose of which was to exchange good practices between the member states of the ESS for the integration of databases on a strategic level, in particular the access and connection of administrative and private data with traditional data. Issues relating to data owners, privacy and security measures, were also discussed.
Discussions tackled user and producer perspectives, ways of having synergies among member states and possible solutions based on the different legal frameworks and focused on modernizing production of statistical information and developing elements that would lead to a common strategy for integration and interoperability to modernize official statistics within the European Statistical System.
