On May 3rd, we celebrate the World Press Freedom Day. It was announced by a decision of the UN General Assembly in 1993.
Freedom of speech and press is a basic human right and one of the principles on which every democratic society is built.
The day is celebrated all over the world, with numerous events appealing for free access to information, media independence and the protection of journalists in the course of their profession.
On this day, the progressive international community pays respect to journalists who have died or suffered in the course of their official duties.
