The last stage of the negotiations between the European Parliament, the Council and Eurostat on the final compromise text of the proposed regulation took place on 11 April 2018, when the Bulgarian Presidency was represented by Mr. Sergey Tsvetarsky, President of the National Statistical Institute.
The new regulation on integrated farm statistics will present the framework for the collection, processing and dissemination of data on the structure of agricultural holdings. The document lays down the rules for conducting the 2020 agricultural census and the next farm structure surveys in 2023 and 2026, as well as the variables, for which data are collected from farmers and from existing administrative sources.
The compromise reached strikes a balance between providing flexibility for the rapidly evolving needs for statistics in designing policies in this field and guaranteeing acceptable limits to the costs and burden on respondents and administrations.
The regulation will be submitted to the European Parliament for a vote at first reading, and subsequently to the Council for adoption. The regulation will come into force following its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union.
