Lecturers were Kim Voldby Pedersen and Jannie Eriksen from Statistics Denmark, who have specialized in conducting courses in EU Member States before taking up the rotating presidency of the Council of the EU. The last two courses were held in Malta and Estonia.
The seminar was attended by the NSI Presidency team, experts from the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Forestry, the National Revenue Agency and the Bulgarian National Bank, the President of the National Institute of Statistics of Romania Tudorel Andrei, the Director of the European Affairs and International Cooperation Directorate of Statistics Romania, and officials from the International Relations Directorate of Statistics Austria.
The goal of the training was to acquaint participants with the preparation and conduct of meetings and with the institutional and procedural context as a basis for the Presidency of the Council of the EU and for chairing the working groups. The focus was on the overall process of the Presidency of the Council of the EU and the challenges faced by the teams.
Role-playing games for chairing the Council and directing working groups were held.
On October 20 - European Statistics Day, the heads of the Bulgarian and Romanian statistical institutions - Sergey Tsvetarski and Tudorel Andrei - planted a tree in Vladimir Zaimov park in the presence of all participants in the seminar. A message to the generations was imbedded in the roots of the tree.
In his message Andrei noted the crucial importance of the Balkan and European cooperation.
Sergey Tsvetarski noted that his message and desire to the future generations is that they should develop statistical science and practice, building on a solid foundation, which is currently being built.
