Between 20 and 22 September 2017 in Budapest, Hungary, the President of the National Statistical Institute Sergey Tsvetarsky will take part in three consecutive high-level European events in the field of statistics.

The 103rd Annual Conference of the Directors-General of the National Statistical Institutes, also known as DGINS, will be held on 20 - 21 September. The Conference is the main forum in the European Union for the exchange of views on the future and the development of the European Statistical System (ESS). The first day of the conference is dedicated to discussions on the ESS priorities beyond 2020, whereas during the second day topical issues in the field of migration statistics will be explored.

On 22 September the 34th meeting of the European Statistical System Committee (ESSC) will take place. The Committee will discuss and vote on four European Commission proposals for regulations, including in the field of statistics on natural gas and electricity prices, statistics on public health and health and safety at work, and statistics on income and living conditions. The Committee will also review the results of the 103rd DGINS Conference and is expected to adopt the Budapest Memorandum on migration statistics.

The ESSC meeting will be immediately followed by the 66th meeting of the Partnership Group. Several strategic issues are on the agenda, including the state of play of the ESS Vision 2020, as well as data access for official statistics. The Partnership Group includes Directors-General from the European Statistical System, whose task is to support the development of the ESS at the highest level. In the context of the upcoming Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, Bulgaria is a member of the Partnership Group for an 18-month period, which begins six months before the country assumes the Presidency and ends six months after its completion.
