Annual conference of the Directors-General of the National Statistical Institutes and meeting of the European Statistical System Committee

The Conference is the main forum in the European Union for discussing the future and the development of the European Statistical System (ESS). It is held annually in one of the EU Member States. The Director-General of the host country’s National Statistical Institute acts as chairperson. The Heads of the European National Statistical Offices, representatives from the European Commission (Eurostat), the UN and the OECD participate in the conference.

The President of the National Statistical Institute, Sergey Tsvetarsky, will take part in the 102nd annual Conference of the Directors-General of the National Statistical Institutes and in a meeting of the European Statistical System Committee, hosted by Statistics Austria. The events will be held on 26 - 28 September 2016 in Vienna.

“Managing a modern NSI in the 21st century” will be the topic of the conference on 26 September 2016, which representatives of the candidate countries have been invited to attend. The topic for the session of 27 September will be “Statistics on income, consumption and wealth”. (For more information: http://www.dgins2016.at/.)

Immediately after the conference, on 28 September, a regular meeting of the European Statistical System Committee (ESSC) will be held. The Committee will vote on four European Commission regulation proposals, including in the field of statistics on pesticides, population and housing censuses, and statistics on income and living conditions. The Committee will also discuss the results of the 102nd Conference and the Vienna Memorandum, as well the ESS Quality Declaration.
