The NSI President Sergey Tsvetarsky participated in the 47th session of the UN Statistical Commission (UNSC), which took place on March 8 - 11 in New York. The meeting discussed the impact of the objectives of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the technological advances on the production of statistical data. Representatives of the Statistical Division of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) shared their experiences on leading topics in the global agenda - modernisation of statistics and climate change.

The High Level Group for modernisation of official statistics to the UNECE presented the progress in its activity. In addition, UNECE organised a side event on ‘Building a modern statistical community’. This is a new partnership of the UNECE with statistical organisations involved to work together in order to improve their efficiency and flexibility under the new requirements for production of data as well as to monitor progress in implementing the objectives of sustainable development. Mr. Tsvetarsky spoke on the need for coordination of national statistical systems in the achievement of sustainable development.

In 2014, the Conference of European Statisticians approved the recommendations of UNECE, associated with the statistics of climate change - the first recommendation of its kind linking climate change and statistics clearly describes how official statistics can contribute with concrete actions to formulate policies on climate.

During the event, Sergey Tsvetarsky met with the Presidents of the National Statistics Offices of the United Kingdom and Estonia - countries which precede Bulgaria's Presidency of the Council of the EU and are part of the Trio Presidency, in which is Bulgaria.

The NSI President held meetings with the heads of the National Statistics Offices of Georgia, Azerbaijan and Armenia.
Confirmed is the desire to deepen relations with Georgia based on the signed in February this year Agreement for Cooperation.
Relations with the Azerbaijan statistics are very intense as the NSI of Bulgaria is currently involved in a second twinning project with Azerbaijan.

At the meeting of Mr. Tsvetarsky with his Armenian counterpart, it was agreed that the traditionally good relations between the two statistical institutes, established on the basis of the concluded agreement in 1999, have to be activated.
An exhibition was organized during the session with materials for the celebration of the World Statistics Day in various countries. Bulgaria participated with a poster containing a map of the country and photos from discussions with students carried out in Sofia and other regional cities.
