The National Statistical Institute – is hosting a meeting of SEEMIG project partners

On 28 and 29 January 2014 the National Statistical Institute is hosting a meeting of the partners in the "Migration management and its influence in Southeast Europe - international activities for developing strategies based on evidence" (SEEMIG), which is implemented under Operational Programme for Transnational Cooperation "South East Europe 2007 - 2013" project - (http://www.southeast-europe.net/hu/).

Reneta Indjova, Ph.D., President of the National Statistical Institute will open the plenary session of the workshop, which will be held in the "Festa" Hotel, Blvd. "Bulgaria" № 83.

The project duration is 30 months (June 2012 - November 2014). Activities are carried out by an international consortium led by the Hungarian Central Statistical Office. SEEMIG relies on a wide network of partners - research institutes, universities, statistical offices and local authorities from eight countries (Austria, Bulgaria, Hungary, Italy, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia) and observers from the other three countries (Albania, Georgia, Ukraine).

The main objective of the SEEMIG project is to provide reliable data on migration, labor market and demographic processes in Southeast Europe and the necessity to improve migration and related statistics in order to better assess the interrelated processes concerning migration and demographic processes, and the labor market. In this regard, the most important task of SEEMIG is collection of the existing data and improvement of the data manufacturing related to migration processes in order to provide recommendations based on evidences (evidence based), which will serve to develop effective policies.

Sofia meeting is important for the project implementation. Bulgaria will be represented with two presentations. The National Statistical Institute will present the systems for production of data on migration, and the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy will present the topic of labor migration in Bulgaria.

The progress achieved on the individual work packages will be discussed (Conceptual framework and definition of migration; Improving systems for production of data, Forecasts; Strategies and capacity increase) and a plan of activities by the end of the project period will be adopted.
