The National Statistical Institute started working on the “Food price monitoring mechanism, Methodological and practical improvements”; Improving the methodology and calculation on more detailed level indices of producer prices on the domestic market for food and drinks" project. The implementation of the project is according to the Grant Agreement with the European Commission No. 04151.2013.002-2013.636.

The Mechanism for monitoring food prices aims at improving the accessibility of statistical data on prices in the successive stages of certain food chains in which one of the components is the production of food and drinks. This component can be represented by calculating the price indices of the most detailed level of classification of economic activities.

The general objectives of the project are:

· Expanding the survey of producer prices on the domestic market and calculation of price indices for food and drinks at the most detailed level (fourth digit) of Classification of economic activities;

· Analysis of the statistical process, including description of the regular process for production of statistical data, establishment of detailed weights, update of samples and the process of data collection.

The implementation of the actions during the Project will ensure the development of methodology and producer price collection at more detailed level for manufacture of food and beverages, as well as their recalculation back to January 2010 in order to achieve longer time series.

The project duration is 20 months, ending in August 2015.
