Organizers of the celebration were the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics - BAS, the National Statistical Institute, jointly with the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics - Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski", and the Bulgarian Statistical Society.
In 2013, under the auspices of the International Statistical Institute, many conferences, seminars, reports, and other festive celebrations are organized worldwide. The Bulgarian scientific and statistical community is actively involved in this process and one of the final events is the holding of the celebration at BAS.
The Vice-President of BAS Acad. Damyan Damyanov and the NSI President Reneta Indjova, PhD, opened the scientific forum. Greetings were read by Corr. Member Yulian Revalski, Director of the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics – BAS; Associate Prof. Evgenia Velikova, Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics - Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski"; Prof. Petar Kenderov, President of the Union of Mathematicians; Sasha Bezuhanova, founder of the Bulgarian Centre for Women in Technology and Doncho Barbalov, Deputy Mayor of Sofia Municipality.
Scientific reports were presented by Prof. Nikolay Yanev (IMI - BAS), Arslan Ahmedov (NSI), Associate Prof. Maroussia Bozhkova (Head of Department "Probability, Operations Research and Statistics", Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics at Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski") and Ivan Balev (NSI).
Greetings on the occasion of the celebration were sent by the President of the Republic of Bulgaria Rosen Plevneliev and the Prime Minister Plamen Oresharski.
The solemn meeting was attended by academicians and corresponding members, statisticians, academics and representatives from business circles. A musical greeting to all guests was played by students from the National School of Music "Lyubomir Pipkov".
UN declared 2013 as International Year of statistics to highlight its unique role as a science and practical tools in the modern development of the new information society. Statistical surveys are the basis of all management decisions in the organization of the economy, state and society. The Probability theory and mathematical statistics are a natural foundation of the natural and social sciences and play an important role in their applications.
