In the period January - May 2017 the Bulgarian exports to the EU increased by 10.8% compared to the same period of 2016 and amounted to 13 283.0 Million BGN while the imports grew by 13.0% and added up to 14 912.7 Million BGN.

In May 2017 the exports to the EU increased by 19.5% compared to the corresponding month of the previous year and added up to 2 864.4 Million BGN while the imports grew by 20.0% and amounted to 3 154.2 Million BGN.

According to preliminary data of the National Statistical Institute in the second quarter of 2017 the number of newly built residential buildings was 585 and the newly built dwellings in them were 2 576. Compared to the second quarter of 2016 the buildings were by 66 more (or 12.7%) and the newly built dwellings in them increased by 323 or by 14.3%.

According to the preliminary data, in June 2017 the index of production in section ‘Construction’ calculated on the base of seasonally adjusted data was 0.2% above the level of the previous month. In June 2017 the working day adjusted index of production in construction increased by 7.9% in comparison with the same month of 2016.

According to the preliminary seasonally adjusted data in June 2017 the turnover in ‘Retail trade, except of motor vehicles and motorcycles’ at constant prices decreased by 0.5% compared to the previous month.

According to the preliminary data the Industrial Production Index, seasonally adjusted, decreased by 1.4% in June 2017 as compared to May 2017. In June 2017 the working day adjusted Industrial Production Index rose by 3.6% in comparison with the same month of 2016.

In July 2017, the total consumer confidence indicator increases by 1.6 percentage points in comparison with its April level. An increase of consumer confidence among both urban and rural inhabitants by 1.2 and 2.8 percentage points respectively is observed.

In the second quarter of 2017, the municipal authorities issued building permits for construction of 1 647 residential buildings with 5 815 dwellings, of 40 administrative buildings/offices and 1 968 other buildings. The construction of 1 281 residential buildings with 3 842 dwellings, of 25 administrative buildings/offices and 1 277 other buildings was started.

Similar to statistics of human population, business demography describes the life cycle of the enterprises; their birth, survival and development until death. More specifically business demography supplies data on number of active enterprises, number of newborn enterprises, proportion of survived enterprises and data on changes in employment figures at specific moment in time.

In May 2017 compared to April 2017 an increase is reported for the production of solid fuels by 21.0%, unleaded motor gasoline - by 1.9% and transport diesel - by 11.3%. At the same time a decrease is reported for the production of electricity by 6.4% and no change for the production of liquefied petroleum gases and natural gas.

In May 2017 compared to April 2017 an increase is reported for the deliveries of solid fuels - by 20.9% and unleaded motor gasoline - by 14.6%. At the same time a decrease is reported for the deliveries of transport diesel - by 16.8%, natural gas - by 15.7% and electricity - by 8.6%. No change for the deliveries of liquefied petroleum gases. 

Total Producer Price Index in June 2017 decreased by 0.2% compared to the previous month; compared to the same month of 2016 the prices rose by 3.1%. Producer Price Index on Domestic Market in June 2017 fell by 0.4% compared to the previous month; compared to the same month of 2016 the domestic prices grew by 2.7%.
