Inflation and Consumer Price Indices in July 2020

Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the second quarter of 2020 declined by 11.7% in EU-27 compared to the previous quarter by seasonally adjusted data. For the same period, GDP in Bulgaria decreased by 9.8%.
The producer price index in agriculture in the second quarter of 2020 increased by 2.8% in comparison with the same quarter of 2019. The crop output index increased by 3.7% and in animal output - by 1.6%. Compared to previous year, the prices of agricultural output went up by 4.3% as the increase in crop output prices was by 7.5%, while the prices of animal output remained almost unchanged.
The index of prices of goods and services currently consumed in agriculture in the second quarter of 2020 was by 5.3% lower compared to the same quarter of previous year and by 4.2% compared to 2019.
According to the seasonally adjusted data, the GDP has a negative growth of 8.2% in the second quarter of 2020 compared to the same quarter of the previous year.
In the second quarter of 2020 the unemployment rate was 5.9%, and the employment rate of population aged 20 - 64 was 72.2%.
According to the preliminary data of the National Statistical Institute at the end of June 2020 the number of employees under labour contract decreased by 1.0% as compared to the end of March 2020 and reached 2.24 million.
In the second quarter of 2020 in comparison with the first quarter of 2020 the average monthly wages and salaries increased by 1.5% getting 1 337 BGN.
In the period January - May 2020 the exports of goods from Bulgarian to the EU decreased by 7.7% in comparison to the same period of 2019 and amounted to 14 237.7 Million BGN while the imports of goods to Bulgaria from the EU dropped by 13.1% and reached 14 275.6 Million BGN.
In May 2020 the exports of goods to the EU decreased by 17.9% compared to the corresponding month of the previous year and amounted to 2 537.0 Million BGN while the imports of goods dropped by 28.3% and added up to 2 458.7 Million BGN.
In the period January - June 2020 the exports of goods from Bulgaria to third countries decreased by 10.5% compared to the same period of 2019 and amounted to 8 890.3 Million BGN while the imports of goods from third countries dropped by 11.0% and added up to 10 940.8 Million BGN.
In the period January - June 2020 the total value of all exported goods to third countries and EU amounted to 26 059.0 Million BGN, which is 8.0% less than the same period of the previous year, while the total value of all imported goods from third countries and EU added up to 28 184.9 Million BGN and dropped by 11.7%.
In 2018, Bulgaria spent 18 517.1 million BGN for social protection. Тo finance social protection in the country, 7 994.1 million BGN were allocated from the state budget while the receipts of social protection contributions amounted to 11 552.1 million BGN.
In June 2020, during the continuing epidemic situation, 2 030 accommodation establishments - hotels, motels, camping sites, mountain chalets and other establishments for short-term accommodation with more than 10 bed-places were functioned in the country. The total number of the rooms in them was 79.2 thousand and the bed-places were 171.4 thousand. In comparison with June 2019, the total number of accommodation establishments (functioned during the period) decreased by 32.7%, and the bed-places in them - by 43.6%.
The total number of the nights spent in all accommodation establishments registered in June 2020 was 495.1 thousand, or by 87.7% less in comparison with the same month of the previous year.
The total revenues from nights spent in June 2020 reached 23.1 million BGN or by 88.8% less compared to June 2019.
