Activity of accommodation establishments in March 2021

In March 2021, during the continuing epidemic situation, 1 719 accommodation establishments - hotels, motels, camping sites, mountain chalets and other establishments for short-term accommodation with more than 10 bed-places were functioned in the country. The total number of the rooms in them was 49.0 thousand and the bed-places were 98.8 thousand. In comparison with March 2020, when the state of emergency was first introduced in the country in connection with the global spread of the COVID-19, the total number of accommodation establishments (functioned during the period) increased by 3.4%, while the bed-places in them decreased by 5.3%.

The total number of the nights spent in all accommodation establishments registered in March 2021 was 439.5 thousand, or by 15.4% more in comparison with the same month of the previous year.

The total revenues from nights spent in March 2021 reached 24.6 million BGN or by 16.6% more compared to March 2020.

Construction Production Indices in March 2021

According to the preliminary data, in March 2021 the index of production in section ‘Construction’ calculated on the base of seasonally adjusted data was 1.2% above the level of the previous month. In March 2021 the working day adjusted index of production in construction increased by 11.2% in comparison with the same month of 2020.

Turnover Indices in 'Retail trade, except of motor vehicles and motorcycles' in March 2021

According to the preliminary seasonally adjusted data in March 2021 the turnover in ‘Retail trade, except of motor vehicles and motorcycles’ at constant prices increased by 0.8% compared to the previous month. The working day adjusted turnover rose by 17.3% as compared to the same month of the previous year.

Newly Built Residential Buildings and Dwellings Completed in the First Quarter of 2021 (preliminary data)

According to preliminary data of the National Statistical Institute in the first quarter of 2021 the number of newly built residential buildings was 925 and the newly built dwellings in them were 4 011. Compared to the first quarter of 2020 the buildings were by 133 more (or by 16.8%) and the newly built dwellings in them increased by 208 or by 5.5%.

In April 2021, the total consumer confidence indicator increases by 2.7 percentage points compared tо its January level, as for the urban population the increase is 2.4 percentage points and for the rural population - 2.7 percentage points.

Building Permits Issued and Construction of New Buildings Started in the First Quarter of 2021

In the first quarter of 2021, the municipal authorities issued building permits for construction of 1 546 residential buildings with 8 775 dwellings, of 28 administrative buildings/offices and 1 117 other buildings. The construction of 998 residential buildings with 5 297 dwellings, of 7 administrative buildings/offices and 576 other buildings was started.

As of 31 December 2020, the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria is administratively divided into 28 administrative districts and 265 municipalities, in which there are 3 160 individual mayoralties. Тhere are 5 257 settlements in the Republic of Bulgaria, of which 257 towns, and 5 000 villages, while the settlement formations were 165 (including 8 of national and 157 of local importance).

Тhe smallest administrative district by area is Sofia (stolitsa), which at the same time is the biggest by population with 1 308 412 inhabitants and the only district with a population above 1 000 000. The smallest administrative district by population is Vidin with 81 212 inhabitants.

Production and Deliveries of Energy Products, February 2021

In February 2021 compared to January 2021 an increase is reported for the production of solid fuels - by 7.4%, unleaded motor gasoline - by 8.3% and transport diesel - by 2.4%. A decrease is reported for the production of liquefied petroleum gases - by 16.7%, natural gas - by 25.0% and electricity - by 9.6%.

In February 2021 compared to January 2021 an increase is reported for the deliveries of solid fuels - by 5.1%, liquefied petroleum gases - by 10.3%, unleaded motor gasoline - by 5.7% and transport diesel - by 13.3%. A decrease is reported for the deliveries of natural gas - by 8.9% and electricity - by 11.4%.
