Natural Gas Market Indicators for 2023
Data on the natural gas Market indicators for 2023 has been published. They are calculated in two levels: ‘Natural gas availability - produced and imported’ and ‘Natural gas retailing by gas transmission and gas distribution networks’.
Number of entities bringing into the country at least 5% of the natural gas imported and produced is 4 (four) with aggregated share of 94.28%, including the entity with the largest share of 59.20%.
Number of natural gas retailers with at least 5% of total natural gas sales by network is 3 (three) with aggregated share of 85.20%, including the retailer with the largest share of 66.12%.
The statistical data on the natural gas market indicators is calculated and reported to Eurostat by all EU Member States on a voluntary basis.

Electricity Market Indicators for 2023
Data on the electricity market indicators for 2023 has been published. They are calculated in two levels: ‘Electricity production’ and ‘Electricity retailing’.
Number of generating companies producing at least 5% of the national net electricity generation is 4 (four), with aggregated share of 65.14% including the company with the largest share of 41.60%.
Number of electricity retailers with at least 5% market share in sales to final customers in the country is 6 (six), with aggregated share of 68.15% including the retailer with the largest share of 16.24%.
The statistical data on the electricity market indicators is calculated and reported to Eurostat by all EU Member States on a voluntary basis.

Consumer Survey, April 2025
In April 2025, the total consumer confidence indicator increases by 3.1 percentage points compared to its January level. An improvement of the consumer confidence among both urban and rural inhabitants - by 2.3 and 4.8 percentage points respectively is reported.
Construction Production Indices in March 2025
In March 2025, the production index in the ‘Construction’ section increased by 1.8% compared to the previous month. An increase was observed in the specialized construction activities - by 3.4%, as well as in the production of civil engineering - by 3.0%. A decrease was seen in the building construction - by 0.6%. The data are preliminary and seasonally adjusted.
The calendar-adjusted data showed a rise of 8.9% in the construction production compared to the same month of 2024. The specialized construction activities went up by 13.9%, civil engineering - by 13.0%, and construction of buildings - by 1.9%.
Industrial Production Indices in March 2025
The Industrial Production Index decreased by 3.6% in March 2025 compared to the previous month. The data are preliminary and seasonally adjusted.
In March 2025, compared to February 2025, a decrease was seen in the electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply - by 39.8%, while a rise was registered in the mining and quarrying industry - by 6.0%, and in the manufacturing - by 0.8%.
In comparison with March 2024, a decrease of 8.3% was reported in the calendar-adjusted Industrial Production Index.
On an annual basis, a drop of the Industrial Production Index was observed in the electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply - by 29.7%, in the manufacturing - by 3.3%, while a rise was registered in the mining and quarrying industry - by 2.9%.
Turnover Indices in ‘Retail trade, except motor vehicles and motorcycles’, March 2025
In March 2025, the turnover in ‘Retail trade, except motor vehicles and motorcycles’ at constant prices increased by 1.1% compared to the previous month. The data are preliminary and seasonally adjusted.
An increase was reported in ‘Retail sales of food, beverages and tobacco’, and in ‘Retail sales of non-food products (except fuel)’ - both by 0.9%, while in ‘Retail sales of automotive fuel in specialised stores’ was noticed a decrease - by 1.9%.
The trade turnover rose by 5.4% compared to the same month of 2024 according to the calendar-adjusted data.
In March 2025, compared to the same month of 2024, a growth of the turnover was registered in all groups: ‘Retail sales of automotive fuel in specialised stores’ - by 8.3%, ‘Retail sales of non-food products (except fuel)’ - by 7.2%, and in ‘Retail sales of food, beverages and tobacco’ - by 0.5%.
Services Production Indices in February 2025
In February 2025, the total production index in Services of the business economy decreased by 1.6% compared to the previous month. The data are preliminary and seasonally adjusted.
Compared to February 2024, a rise of 5.6% was registered in the calendar-adjusted index according to preliminary data.
Administrative-territorial and territorial division of the Republic of Bulgaria as of 31 December 2024
As of 31 December 2024, the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria is administratively divided into 28 administrative districts and 265 municipalities, within which there are 3 041 individual mayoralties. The total number of settlements is 5 256, of which 257 towns and 4 999 villages, while the settlement formations are 166 (including 8 of national and 158 of local importance). The largest municipalities with population above 100 000 inhabitants are eight - Stolichna, Plovdiv, Varna, Burgas, Stara Zagora, Ruse, Sliven and Pleven. The share of the population in these eight municipalities represents 41.1% of the total country’s population. In the cities with population of over 100 000 people, lives 35.5% of the country’s population. Their number remains the same as in 2023, but Stara Zagora surpasses Ruse and becomes the fifth largest city in the country. There are 199 settlements without population. The highest number of settlements without population is in the districts of Veliko Tarnovo (66), Gabrovo (64), Kyustendil (10), Kardzhali (9) and Sofia (9).
Newly built residential buildings and dwellings completed in 2024
The number of newly built residential buildings in 2024 was 5 201, and the newly built dwellings in them were 20 998.
75.8% of the newly built residential buildings had steel-concrete construction, 20.1% had solid structure, 3.6% had ‘other’ and 0.4% had panel construction.
The highest is the number of newly built dwellings with two rooms (37.5%), followed by the number of those with three rooms (32.8%), and the lowest is the number of dwellings with five rooms (5.4%).
The total useful space of newly built dwellings in 2024 is 2 025.0 thousand sq. m, and the living floor space is 1 538.4 thousand sq. meters.

Fiscal data by 'Central Government' and 'Social Security Funds' subsectors, March 2025
For March 2025, the reported revenues of sub-sector ‘Central Government’ were in the amount of BGN 4 085.44 million and the expenditures were in the amount of BGN 5 208.60 million, and for the sub-sector ‘Social Security Funds’ the revenues amounted to BGN 2 836.41 million and the expenditures were BGN 2 920.92 million.
The data for the ‘Central Government’ sub-sector are formed on the basis of the monthly cash statements of the budget units, as well as on estimates of the state enterprises reclassified in the sub-sector, and the data for the ‘Social Security Funds’ sub-sector - on the basis of the monthly cash statements of the National Insurance Institute and the National Health Insurance Fund.
The information is published on the basis of Article 3 (2) of Directive 2011/85 of the EU.
