According to the seasonally adjusted data, the GDP growth rate in the first quarter of 2016 is 2.9% compared to the same quarter of the previous year.

The consumer price index in April 2016 compared to March 2016 was 100.0%, i.e. the monthly inflation was 0.0%.

In March 2016, 1 919 accommodation establishments - hotels, motels, camping sites, mountain chalets and other establishments for short-term accommodation with more than 10 bed-places were functioned in the country. The total number of the rooms in them was 56.8 thousand and the bed-places were 115.8 thousand. In comparison with March 2015 the total number of accommodation establishments (functioned during the period) decreased by 3.2%, while the bed-places in them increased by 2.4%.

The total number of the nights spent in all accommodation establishments registered in March 2016 was 742.2 thousand, or by 11.4% more in comparison with the same month of the previous year.

The total revenues from nights spent in March 2016 reached 35.0 million BGN or by 8.8% more compared to March 2015.

The number of detached crèches and groups in kindergartens functioning in the country as of 31.12.2015 was 812 with 32 040 places in them. The number of places in the country has increased with 1 516, or with 5.0% compared to the previous year.

The number of children accommodated in crèches at the end of the year was 32 124. 16 497 of them were boys, and - 15 627 girls.

According to preliminary data of the National Statistical Institute in the first quarter of 2016 the number of newly built residential buildings was 543 and the newly built dwellings in them were 2 291. Compared to the fourth quarter of 2015 the buildings were by 6 less (or 1.1%) while the newly built dwellings in them increased by 882 or by 62.6%. 

In the period January - February 2016 the Bulgarian exports to the EU increased by 2.0% compared to the same period of 2015 and amounted to 4 552.9 Million BGN while the imports decreased by 1.5% and added up to 4 860.5 Million BGN.

In February 2016 the exports to the EU increased by 5.7% compared to the corresponding month of the previous year and added up to 2 290.2 Million BGN while the imports decreased by 1.0% and amounted to 2 597.5 Million BGN.

In the period January - March 2016 the Bulgarian exports to third countries decreased by 8.8% compared to the same period of 2015 and amounted to 3 533.2 Million BGN while the imports decreased by 19.2% and added up to 3 638.1 Million BGN.

In the period January - March 2016 the total value of all exported goods (both for third countries and EU) amounted to 10 590.0 Million BGN and in comparison with the corresponding period of the previous year the exports decreased by 1.6% while the total value of all imported goods added up to 11 482.8 Million BGN and decreased by 6.8%.

According to the preliminary data, in March 2016 the index of production in section ‘Construction’ calculated on the base of seasonally adjusted data was 1.5% below the level of the previous month. In March 2016 the working day adjusted index of production in construction decreased by 9.3% in comparison with the same month of 2015.

According to the preliminary seasonally adjusted data in March 2016 the turnover in ‘Retail trade, except of motor vehicles and motorcycles’ at constant prices increased by 0.8% compared to the previous month.

According to the preliminary data the Industrial Production Index, seasonally adjusted, decreased by 0.5% in March 2016 as compared to February 2016. In March 2016 the working day adjusted Industrial Production Index rose by 3.0% in comparison with the same month of 2015.
