Education in the Republic of Bulgaria for 2018/2019 School Year
The main results from the National Statistical Institute (NSI) annual comprehensive surveys characterizing the activity of educational institutions are as follows:
- In the 2018/2019 academic year in kindergartens are enrolled 218.8 thousand children or with 1.0% less in comparison with the previous year.
- In 2018, high school graduates from general and vocational schools are respectively 26.5 and 23.0 thousand students.
- Enrolled in the varying degrees of higher education in 2018/2019 academic year are 229.5 thousand persons.
- As of 31.12.2018 for acquiring educational and scientific degree ‘Doctor’ in the country are trained 6 467, of which 504 foreign citizens.
Bulgaria and EU: Deficit and debt of General Government Institutional Sector for 2018 (preliminary data)
In 2018, the government deficit and debt of the EU-28 decreased in relative terms compared with 2017. In the EU-28 the government deficit to GDP ratio fell from 1.0% in 2017 to 0.6% in 2018. In the EU-28 the government debt to GDP ratio declined from 81.7% at the end of 2017 to 80.0% at the end of 2018.
Deficit and Debt of General Government Institutional Sector in the Republic of Bulgaria in 2018 (preliminary data)
According to preliminary data of the National Statistical Institute the General Government Institutional Sector reported in 2018 a surplus of 2 149 million BGN or 2.0% of GDP.
The Government Debt of Bulgaria for 2018 is 24 430 million BGN or 22.6% of GDP.
Anti-Social Acts of Minor and Juveniles in 2018
The number of minors and juveniles registered in the Child pedagogic rooms for anti-social acts and crimes commitment in 2018 was 9 098. In comparison with 2017 their number decreased by 48 or by 0.5%.
Income, Expenditure and Consumption of Households in 2018
The annual total income average per capita is 6 013 BGN in 2018 and increases by 7.6% compared to 2017.
The Bulgarian households are spent 5 772 BGN average per capita in 2018 or by 10.6% more compared to 2017.

Inflation and Consumer Price Indices in March 2019
The consumer price index in March 2019 compared to February 2019 was 100.1%, i.e. the monthly inflation was 0.1%.
Bulgarian Trade with EU in January 2019 (preliminary data)
In January 2019 the Bulgarian exports to the EU grew by 2.2% compared to the same month of 2018 and amounted to 3 164.6 Million BGN while the imports from the EU decreased by 7.4% and reached 2 990.6 Million BGN.
Bulgarian Trade with Third Countries in the Period January - February 2019 (preliminary data)
In the period January - February 2019 the exports of goods from Bulgaria to third countries increased by 15.0% compared to the same period of 2018 and amounted to 2 874.5 Million BGN while the imports of goods from third countries increased by 12.3% and added up to 3 909.9 Million BGN.
In the period January - February 2019 the total value of all exported goods to third countries and EU amounted to 9 202.0 Million BGN, which is 10.9% more than the same period of 2018, while the total value of all imported goods from third countries and EU added up to 10 129.6 Million BGN and grew by 5.2%.
Investment Activity in Industry, March 2019
The investment business inquiry of NSI carried out among industrial enterprises in March 2019 shows that in 2018 the expenditures for acquiring fixed tangible and intangible assets in industry are by 5.1% less in comparison with 2017. The plans of industrial enterprises in 2019 are for a decrease of investments by 7.3% compared to the previous year.
Population and Demographic Processes in 2018
As of 31 December 2018 the population of Bulgaria is 7 000 039 persons, representing 1.4% of the EU population. Compared to 2017, the population decreases by 49 995 persons.
There are 62 197 live born children in 2018. The number of live births decreases by 1 758 compared to the previous year.
The number of deaths in 2018 is 108 526 and the crude mortality rate - 15.4‰. Compared to the previous year the number of deaths decreases by 1 265.
