Data description | According to the Law for Health Establishments the Homes for medico-social care for children are registered as "Other health establishments", in which medical and other specialists carry out continuous medical observation and specific care for children up to 3 years of age with chronic diseases and medical and social problems. Data on number of establishments, personnel, beds, distribution of children by main health and social categories and other basic indicators on establishments' activity are ensured. |

Statistical concepts and definitions | According to the Rules for organization and activity of homes for medico-social care for children, in addition to cases of accommodation according to the Law for Child Protection, children with low weight due to prematurity can be accepted with the consent of their parents or guardians. During the stay at home these children are included in the total number of institutionalized children. The coefficient of institutionalization of children under age 3 is the ratio of the number of children in homes for medico-social care for children at the end of the year per 1000 the population of in the same age group. |

At national and regional level the main users of the data are the National Assembly, the authorities of the central executive and local power, the State Agency for Child Protection. Annually data are also provided to the Ministry of Health and its territorial divisions - Regional health inspectorates and to the National Center for Public Health and Analyses, as they are responsible for policy making in the field of health at national and regional level. Upon requests for specific data, the data is also submitted to research institutes, universities, NGOs and others. |
