The Deputy President of the NSI was elected as a member of the Executive Body of the Committee on Monetary, Financial and Balance of Payment Statistics

The Deputy President of the NSI Svilen Kolev, PhD was elected as a member of the Executive Body of the Committee on Monetary, Financial and Balance of Payment Statistics (CMFB) for the 2025 and 2026 mandate, after an election procedure that was held among the members of the Committee.

The Committee on Monetary, Financial and Balance of Payments Statistics was established with a Decision of the Council of the European Communities from the 25th of February 1991 with the aim of assisting the European Commission in drawing up and implementing the multiannual programme of work relating to monetary, financial and balance of payments statistics. The Committee has the task of expressing opinions on the developments of statistics in various direction, necessary for policies, implemented by the Council, the Commission, the European System of Central Bank (ESCB) and the various committees assisting them and can express opinions on the links between monetary, financial and balance of payments statistics and certain other economic statistics, on which European and national statistical and accounting standards are based.

In its main role, the Committee is a forum for coordination of statistical policies between the National Statistical Institutes and Eurostat, on the one hand, and National Central Banks and the European Central Bank, on the other. The Committee on Monetary, Financial and Balance of Payment Statistics convenes twice a year and its participants are representatives of the European Central Bank and Eurostat, as well as representatives of the Central Banks and National Statistical Institutes of EU member states.

The Executive Body of the Committee is comprised of 12 members and when members are appointed, a geographical balance and representativeness between institutions is sought. Representatives of the Central Banks of Slovenia and the Netherlands and the National Statistical Institutes of Bulgaria, France and Finland were elected to the Executive Board of the Committee for the 2025 – 2026 mandate.

Mr. Alfredo Cristobal of the National Statistical Institute of Spain has been elected as Chair of the Committee for the 2025 – 2026 mandate, and Mr. Robert Kirchner of the Central Bank of Germany has been elected as Vice-Chair of the Committee.

The meeting of the Executive Board, where the mandate will be passed from the old to the new members will take place on 18 and 19 November 2024 in Vienna. The agenda also includes a discussion on the work plan within the mandate.
